The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is the largest and strongest intra-articular ligament of the knee joint and the primary posterior stabilizer. PCL injuries are less frequent than other knee ligament injuries and are typically combined with meniscal and chondral injuries or in the context of multiligamentous injuries. It is critical to properly diagnose and treat these lesions in order to avoid the risk of PCL insufficiency, subsequent knee instability, and early osteoarthritis.

The gas-phase reaction between -2-hexenal (T2H) and chlorine atoms (Cl) was studied using three complementary experimental setups at atmospheric pressure and room temperature. In this work, we studied the rate constant for the titled oxidation reaction as well as the formation of the gas-phase products and secondary organic aerosols (SOAs). The rate constant of the T2H + Cl reaction was determined using the relative method in a simulation chamber using proton-transfer reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometry (PTR-ToF-MS) to monitor the loss of T2H and the reference compound.

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in adults (MIS-A) is a rare hyperinflammatory complication with multi-organ involvement that manifests a few weeks after recovering from a typically mild coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. Although encephalopathy and seizures can occur in the acute phase of COVID-19, the nervous system is infrequently involved in patients with MIS-A. Herein, we describe the case of a young woman who presented with new-onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE) following a mild COVID-19 infection associated with symptoms, signs, and laboratory findings that satisfy the updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) definition of MIS-A.

Hypoxic-ischemic brain injury is a well-known consequence of cardiac arrest and providing an accurate prognostication remains a challenge, especially in decisions related to withdrawal of care. Bilateral absence of the cortical response (N20 potential) on median somatosensory evoked potentials, on days 1 to 3 after the return of spontaneous circulation, is widely considered as the most reliable predictor of poor outcome with a high specificity and a low false-positive rate. The authors describe the case of a young comatose woman after hypoxic injury because of cardiac arrest whose initial median somatosensory evoked potentials revealed bilateral absence of the N20 response associated with evidence of selective injury to both perirolandic cortices and basal ganglia on brain MRI.

The article "Methanol dimer formation drastically enhances hydrogen abstraction from methanol by OH at low temperature" proposes a dimer mediated mechanism in order to explain the large low temperature rate coefficients for the OH + methanol reaction measured by several groups. It is demonstrated here theoretically that under the conditions of these low temperature experiments, there are insufficient dimers formed for the proposed new mechanism to apply. Experimental evidence is also presented to show that dimerization of the methanol reagent does not influence the rate coefficients reported under the conditions of methanol concentration used for the kinetics studies.

In the last years, ultra-low temperature chemical kinetic experiments have demonstrated that some gas-phase reactions are much faster than previously thought. One example is the reaction between OH and CHOH, which has been recently found to be accelerated at low temperatures yielding CHO as main product. The gas phase reaction between the CN radical and acetonitrile CH3CN was investigated experimentally, at low temperatures, with the CRESU apparatus and a slow flow reactor to explore the temperature dependence of its rate coefficient from 354 K down to 23 K. Whereas a standard Arrhenius behavior was found at T > 200 K, indicating the presence of an activation barrier, a dramatic increase in the rate coefficient by a factor of 130 was observed when the temperature was decreased from 168 to 123 K. The reaction was found to be pressure independent at 297 K unlike the experiments carried out at 52 and 132 K.

This is a case of a proximal pin migration after ACL reconstruction in medial soft tissue with pain, inflammatory reaction and functional reduction. 33-year-old male presented at our clinic with a complete ACL rupture.
