Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a multimorbidity disorder ranging from excess accumulation of fat in the liver (steatosis) to steatohepatitis (NASH) and end-stage cirrhosis, and the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in a subset of patients. The defining features of NASH are inflammation and progressive fibrosis. Currently, no pharmaceutical therapies are available for NAFLD, NASH and HCC; therefore, developing novel treatment strategies is desperately needed.

Purpose: To determine the rate, time to RTP, and player performance after ACJ separation in soccer players from the top 5 professional European leagues when compared with a retrospective, matched cohort of uninjured players.
The appearance of colony growth sectors on solid medium plates has been described in many fungi. Although the molecular bases of this phenomenon remain largely unknown, possible relationships with genetic or epigenetic changes have been reported. Here we present a method to quantify the frequency of colony growth sectors in Fusarium oxysporum, which can be used to compare different fungal strains and to infer their genetic instability.

Methods: Twenty nondiabetic and 10 diabetic donor corneas were processed using DescePrep, which standardizes the liquid bubble technique. Corneas were stained with trypan blue and then processed.

This paper describes a self-compensated technique for canceling the undesired influence of temperature in strain measurement. An edge-filter-based interrogator is proposed and the central peaks of two FBGs (sensor and reference) are matched with the positive and negative slopes of a Fabry-Perot interferometer that acts as an optical filter.

Here, we investigate how -regulatory mutations are distributed within the genome and within a gene regulatory network by identifying and characterizing 69 mutations with -regulatory effects on expression of the same focal gene in . Relative to 1766 mutations without effects on expression of this focal gene, we found that these -regulatory mutations were enriched in coding sequences of transcription factors previously predicted to regulate expression of the focal gene.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe insight into the mechanism of the unprecedented formation of pure anatase TiO from the macromolecular (Chitosan)•(TiOSO) precursor has been investigated using micro Raman spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis (TGA/DTA). The formation of a graphitic film was observed upon annealing of the macromolecular precursor, reaching a maximum at about 500 °C due to decomposition of the polymeric chain of the Chitosan and (PS-co-4-PVP) polymers. The proposed mechanism is the nucleation and growth of TiO nanoparticles over this graphitic substrate.
