Background And Aim: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is a major public health issue in Africa. The objective of this study was to determine which of isolated HIV-infection, isolated naive pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB), or naive HIV-PTB coinfection was more harmful to inflammatory, hepatic, and renal functions.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was undertaken among ten patients with isolated HIV infection, ten patients with isolated naive HIV infection, ten patients with isolated PTB and 32 patients with HIV-PTB coinfection, with the aim of determining which group had the highest levels of oxidative stress and hepatic and renal dysfunction markers.
Cogniauxia podoleana Baillon (Cucurbitaceae family) leaves are used in Congolese traditional medicine for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Based on an increasing number of reports on blood glucose level reduction associated with some saponins and flavonoids isolated from medicinal plants, the hypoglycemic and antihyperglycemic effects of flavonoid and saponin fractions were investigated. Saponin fractions were obtained by the fractionation of aqueous extract of leaves using benzene and ethyl acetate.

Two polypeptidic precursors of yeast mitochondrial phenylalanyl-tRNA synthetase subunits were purified from the cytoplasm by immunoprecipitation with an insolubilized glutaraldehyde-treated IgG fraction, followed by two chromatographies on Sephadex G-200 and on DEAE-cellulose. Conversion of large amounts of Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells to protoplasts is studied using various preparations extracted from Helix pomatia hepato-pancreatic juice. The most favourable yield in two hours incubations (88 per cent) is obtained with 20 ml cytohelicase, a chitinase and glucanase enriched extract, per 400 g of yeast cells, harvested at the end of the logarithmic growth phase and preincubated in presence of 2-mercaptoethanol.
