Clinical expertise is the mechanism through which practitioners implement other components of evidence-based practice (EBP). Within occupational therapy practice, intervention approaches that are both closely and loosely aligned with Ayres' Theory of Sensory Integration are widespread, offering a unique opportunity to investigate the subjective nature of clinical expertise in EBP. This qualitative study explored motivations to offer sensory integration-based interventions, and factors informing occupational therapists' clinical decision making in relation to an arguably contentious evidence base.

The prefrontal temporal cortical network (PFTCN) is a crucial part of a widely distributed neural network which has been shown (a) to subserve language function; (b) to modulate the cognitive circuits that are linked with work production; and (c) to organise thinking and develop word-search strategies. Background: Valproate treatment has been associated with high rates of menstrual abnormalities, hyperandrogenism, and polycystic ovaries in women with epilepsy. This pilot study investigated whether valproate treatment had the same associations in women with bipolar disorder.

Method: One hundred forty outpatient women with a DSM-IV diagnosis of bipolar disorder (aged 15-45 years) were surveyed on their medical, psychiatric, and reproductive health history.
