Methadone is a medication used for pain relief and treating opioid addiction, but it can lead to serious heart issues like arrhythmias, specifically torsades de pointes (TdP), which can cause sudden death.
A middle-aged woman with a long history of methadone use suffered a cardiac arrest and was hospitalized, where she had multiple episodes of TdP that improved with treatment.
After stopping methadone, her prolonged QT interval persisted, raising suspicion for congenital long QT syndrome, and she was discharged with a heart monitor and medication for her condition.
