Article Synopsis
  • - Two hybrid compounds, Th1 and Th2, were created by reacting ethynyl derivatives with 4-butylbenzoyl isothiocyanate, and they were characterized using techniques like NMR, UV-visible spectroscopy, FT-IR, and elemental analysis.
  • - Thermal stability tests showed that Th1 and Th2 remain stable up to 210 °C, and X-ray diffraction helped determine the crystal structure of Th2, highlighting significant hydrogen bonding interactions.
  • - Electrochemical analyses revealed that both compounds have irreversible redox processes, and computational studies indicated a strong delocalization of electronic density in their molecular structures, involving a conjugated π-system.

Little has been investigated about Science Diplomacy (SD) in emerging economies, more specifically on governance schemes useful for organizing intersecting actors, practices, conceptions and suggestions of the future in foreign affairs and Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in public administration sectors. This paper contributes to a better understanding of the "texture and nature" of SD initiatives in emerging economies through the eyes of relevant actors involved or reflecting about them in Colombia. The aim of this paper is to propose a general governance scheme for SD in emerging economies and its potential instrumentation for a policy-mix.

Gaucher disease (GD) is caused by a genetic deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme glucocerebrosidase (GCase) leading to the accumulation of glucocerebroside in the liver, spleen, and bone marrow. The early diagnosis allows a prompt enzyme replacement therapy reversing cytopenias and visceromegaly and preventing irreversible bone lesions. Current diagnostic algorithms are based on well-recognized hematological manifestations.

The crystal structures of a new polymorph of dipotassium hydrogen citrate, 2K·HCHO, and potassium rubidium hydrogen citrate, K·Rb·HCHO, have been solved and refined using laboratory powder X-ray diffraction and optimized using density functional techniques. In the new polymorph of the dipotassium salt, KO and KO coordination polyhedra share corners and edges to form a three-dimensional framework with channels parallel to the a axis and [111]. The hydrophobic methylene groups face each other in the channels.

Antimicrobial resistance to antibiotic treatment has significantly increased during recent years, causing this to become a worldwide public health problem. More than 70% of pathogenic bacteria are resistant to at least one of the currently used antibiotics. Polymyxin E (colistin) has recently been used as a "last line" therapy when treating Gram-negative multi-resistant bacteria.

Over the past decades, consistent studies have shown that race/ethnicity have a great impact on cancer incidence, survival, drug response, molecular pathways and epigenetics. Despite the influence of race/ethnicity in cancer outcomes and its impact in health care quality, a comprehensive understanding of racial/ethnic inclusion in oncological research has never been addressed. We therefore explored the racial/ethnic composition of samples/individuals included in fundamental (patient-derived oncological models, biobanks and genomics) and applied cancer research studies (clinical trials).

Osteoporosis is an evolving disease which affects over 200 million people worldwide. Our recommendations are guidelines for its diagnosis, prevention and treatment, but they do not constitute standards for clinical decisions in individual cases. The physician must adapt them to individual special situations, incorporating personal factors that transcend the limits of these guidelines and are dependent on the knowledge and art of the practice of Medicine.

Informed consent is an essential element of research, and signing this document is required to conduct most clinical trials. Its aim is to inform patients what their participation in the study will involve. However, increasingly, their complexity and length are making them difficult to understand, which might lead patients to give their authorization without having read them previously or without having understood what is stated.

Background: High concentrations of plasmatic IgE have been related to distinct systemic inflammatory conditions that frequently predispose individuals to hypersensitivity reactions. Although effects of IgE have been suggested to relay on the low-intensity activation of distinct effector elements of the immune system, such as mast cells (MC), experimental evidence on the role of IgE-induced production of inflammatory mediators on specific pathologies is scarce. MC are an important component in tumor microenvironment where they seem to secrete a number of immunomodulatory and angiogenic mediators, such as the Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) by not well-described mechanisms.
