Large International Validation of ABSIS and PDAI Pemphigus Severity Scores.

The Pemphigus Disease Area Index (PDAI) and Autoimmune Bullous Skin Disorder Intensity-Score (ABSIS) scores have been proposed to provide an objective measure of pemphigus activity. These scores have been evaluated only on already treated patients mainly with mild to moderate activity. The objective was to assess the interrater reliability of ABSIS and PDAI scores and their correlation with other severity markers in a large international study.

The pathogenic activity of anti-desmoglein autoantibodies parallels disease severity in rituximab-treated patients with pemphigus vulgaris.

Background: Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune blistering disease mediated by IgG autoantibodies targeting desmogleins (Dsgs). The anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody rituximab is increasingly used in corticosteroid-resistant PV patients. In a subset of rituximab-treated patients in remission, high ELISA index values have been reported; however, their significance remains so far unclear.

Chronic idiopathic acrocyanosis and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase C677T (p.Ala222Val) and A1298C (p.Glu429Ala) polymorphisms.

Background: Chronic idiopathic acrocyanosis is a common acrosyndrome. Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is an enzyme involved in the metabolism of folate. Two functional polymorphisms of MTHFR have been identified, C677T and A1298C.

Only limited support for a role of psychosomatic factors in psoriasis. Results from a case-control study.

Objective: To investigate the role of stressful events, social support, attachment security and alexithymia in triggering or exacerbating psoriasis.

Methods: Outpatients experiencing a recent onset or exacerbation of psoriasis (n=40) were compared with outpatients with skin conditions in which psychosomatic factors are regarded as negligible (n=116). Stressful events during the last year were assessed with Paykel's Interview for Recent Life Events.
