Dendritic cells (DCs) orchestrate a repertoire of immune responses that bring about resistance to infection and tolerance to self. Cancers can exploit DCs to evade immunity, but DCs also can generate resistance to cancer. Owing to their capacity to capture, process, and present antigens to naïve T cells, thereby launching adaptive immunity, DCs are poised to play a critical role in cancer recognition and rejection.

The protocol used to obtain highly specific antisera directed against D-amino acids is also reported. Immunoreactivity for D-glutamate was found in dendrites and cell bodies, but not in nerve fibers.

It is characterised by the presence of tender subcutaneous nodules that may rupture, resulting in deep dermal abscesses, fibrosis with dermal contractures and induration of the skin. The management of HS is a challenge for physicians as the pathogenesis is not clearly defined and prevents the use and development of directed therapies.
