Article Synopsis
  • A framework is developed to automate the process of calculating daily dose distributions for proton therapy quickly enough for online evaluation using CT-on-Rails.
  • Daily dose calculations utilize both rigid and deformable registration techniques to effectively align images and propagate risk structures.
  • Results showed that the automated system completed daily evaluations with minimal discrepancies and fast processing times, proving useful for identifying changes that may impact treatment decisions.

Background: Surface-guided radiation therapy (SGRT) systems have been widely installed and utilized on linear accelerators. However, the use of SGRT with proton therapy is still a newly developing field, and published reports are currently very limited.

Purpose: To assess the clinical application and alignment agreement of SGRT with CT-on-rails (CTOR) and kV-2D image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) for breast treatment using proton therapy.

Adult renal neuroblastoma is a rare condition, and a few cases have been previously described in the literature. Its prognosis is variable and the treatment suffer the lack of specific guidelines due to the low incidence. We report a case of adult renal neuroblastoma managed with nephrectomy and adjuvant chemotherapy.

Introduction: Endometriosis is a gynecological pathology defined by the presence and abnormal development of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. Our objective was to draw up an epidemiological profile and to describe the anatomical clinical forms of endometriosis in Dakar.

Patients And Methods: This is a retrospective study of all cases of external and internal endometriosis diagnosed in an anatomy and pathology laboratory in Dakar over a period of twenty (20) years.

  • The marine bacterium Vibrio fischeri forms biofilms crucial for colonizing its squid host, relying on the positive regulator RscS and the presence of pABA and calcium.
  • Loss of RscS severely impairs biofilm formation, indicating its essential role in recognizing environmental signals that lead to biofilm development.
  • This research enhances our understanding of biofilm formation mechanisms, which is especially relevant due to the challenges posed by infectious biofilms in medical settings.

Purpose: To present a novel method for generating nonuniform lesion-specific rotational margins for targets remote from isocenter, as encountered in single isocenter multiple metastasis radiotherapy.

Methods: Target contours are rotated using a large series of 3D rotations, corresponding to a given range of rotational uncertainty, and combined to create a rotational envelope that encompasses potential motion. A set of artificial spherical targets ranging from 0.

Block copolymer micelles have demonstrated great promise in the solubilization of hydrophobic drugs, but an understanding of the blood stability of the drug-laden micelles is needed for therapeutic advancement of micelle technologies. Following intravenous administration, mPEG-CL and mPEG-LA micelles have demonstrated quick release of their cargo and disassembly in blood, but the prevailing mechanisms of micelle disruption and key biomacromolecules driving this disruption have yet to be elucidated. Although protein interactions with solid polymeric nanoparticles have been characterized, not much is known regarding protein interactions with dynamic block copolymer micelles.

For patients treated with SBRT for spinal metastases in the cervical area, a thermoplastic mask is the usual immobilization technique. This project investigates the impact of shoulder position variability on target coverage for such cases. Eight HN patients treated in a suite equipped with a CT-on-rails system (CTOR) were randomly chosen.

Article Synopsis
  • - The marine bacterium *Vibrio fischeri* forms biofilms on its squid host through a polysaccharide (SYP), but the wild-type strain ES114 struggles with biofilm formation, leading researchers to create genetically engineered strains for study.
  • - Discoveries revealed that yeast extract inhibits biofilm development; however, a specific mutant showed improved biofilm formation in a modified growth medium (tTBS) without yeast extract, particularly when supplemented with calcium and the vitamin pABA.
  • - The coordination of pABA and calcium enhances biofilm formation by increasing levels of c-di-GMP, a signaling molecule, while also reducing bacterial motility, indicating how environmental cues influence gene expression and biofilm production in *

Bacterial motility is critical for symbiotic colonization by of its host, the squid , facilitating movement from surface biofilms to spaces deep inside the symbiotic organ. While colonization has been studied traditionally using strain ES114, others, including KB2B1, can outcompete ES114 for colonization for a variety of reasons, including superior biofilm formation. We report here that KB2B1 also exhibits an unusual pattern of migration through a soft agar medium: whereas ES114 migrates rapidly and steadily, KB2B1 migrates slowly and then ceases migration.

Non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL) are underestimated causes of cancer in West Africa where chronic viral hepatitis and HIV are endemic. While the association with HIV infection has already been characterized, limited information is available on the association between chronic viral hepatitis and NHL in sub-Saharan Africa. A case-control study was conducted in referral hospitals of Abidjan (Cote d'Ivoire) and Dakar (Senegal).

Only by understanding the ability to take a third-person perspective can we begin to elucidate the neural processes responsible for one's inimitable conscious experience. The current study examined differences in hemispheric laterality during a first-person perspective (1PP) and third-person perspective (3PP) taking task, using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Participants were asked to take either the 1PP or 3PP when identifying the number of spheres in a virtual scene.

By enhancing tissue repair and modulating immune responses, Foxp3 regulatory T cells (Tregs) play essential roles in resolution from lung injury. The current study investigated the effects that Tregs exert directly or indirectly on the transcriptional profiles of type 2 alveolar epithelial (AT2) cells during resolution in an experimental model of acute lung injury. Purified AT2 cells were isolated from uninjured mice or mice recovering from LPS-induced lung injury, either in the presence of Tregs or in Treg-depleted mice, and transcriptome profiling identified differentially expressed genes.

The immunologic responses that occur early in the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) elicit immune-mediated damage. The mechanisms underlying the resolution of ARDS, particularly the role of signaling molecules in regulating immune cell kinetics, remain important questions. Th1-mediated responses can contribute to the pathogenesis of acute lung injury (ALI).

Polyamines are small polycationic molecules with flexible carbon chains that are found in all eukaryotic cells. Polyamines are involved in the regulation of many host processes and have been shown to be implicated in viral replication. Depletion of polyamine pools in cells treated with FDA-approved drugs restricts replication of diverse RNA viruses.

Polyamines are small positively-charged molecules abundant in eukaryotic cells that are crucial to RNA virus replication. In eukaryotic cells, polyamines facilitate processes such as transcription, translation, and DNA replication, and viruses similarly rely on polyamines to facilitate transcription and translation. Whether polyamines function at additional stages in viral replication remains poorly understood.
