Building a Future for School-Based Menstruation Health and Hygiene (MHH): Evaluating Implementation of a Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Policy in Chicago Public Schools.

Menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) inequities disproportionately impact communities who are marginalized. In 2018, Illinois passed the Learn with Dignity Act (LWDA) requiring schools to provide menstrual products in bathrooms, yet little is known about its impacts. This evaluation examined LWDA implementation across Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and identified barriers, facilitators, and lessons to inform future MHH policy implementations.

Facilitators and Barriers to Implementing a Comprehensive Sexual Health Education Policy in Chicago Public Schools.

Background: In 2013, the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) district passed a policy requiring schools to deliver comprehensive sexual health education (SHE) to all K-12th grade students. A performance improvement case study was conducted in the 2019-2020 school year to evaluate the implementation of the policy and identify lessons learned to support implementation in schools.

Methods: Key informant interviews were conducted with 11 school principals and 29 teachers to discuss SHE implementation at their school.

Evaluation of a Mandatory Professional Development on Supporting Transgender, Nonbinary, and Gender-Nonconforming Students in Chicago Public Schools.

To address the reality that LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and others) students remain more likely to experience harm, harassment, and violence at school as well as miss school due to feeling unsafe and the fact that students identifying as transgender, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming (TNBGNC) are at even greater risk of bullying, harassment, and significant mental health concerns, Chicago Public Schools' (CPS) Office of Student Health and Wellness (OSHW) created a novel professional development (PD) requirement in 2019, entitled "Supporting Transgender, Nonbinary, and Gender Nonconforming Students." The PD, a recorded webinar encouraging independent time for reflection and planning, takes an intersectional approach and is required of all CPS staff members across the entire district. A pre- and postevaluation of the PD, guided by the Kirkpatrick model, was completed by 19,503 staff members.

Characteristics, treatment outcomes and direct costs of tooth avulsion in children treated at a major hospital.

Background/aims: Avulsion of a permanent tooth is one of the most severe traumatic dental injuries, comprising an estimated 0.5%-16% of all dental injuries. The aim of this study was to estimate the direct financial costs of tooth avulsion in children based on stage of root maturity and the occurrence of ankylosis and to report patients' characteristics and outcomes of treatment.

Cytokine gene transcription of human colonic intraepithelial lymphocytes costimulated with epithelial cells bearing HLA-DR and its inhibition by 5-aminosalicylic acid.

The objectives of this study were to activate human colonic intraepithelial lymphocytes at the transcriptional level with HLA-DR+ human colonic epithelial cell line (HT29) in synergy with CD3 monoclonal antibody and to investigate the molecular mechanism for the therapeutic effects of 5-aminosalicylic acid. Lymphocytes were isolated by a mechanical method from resected colon of 22 cases and then cocultured on 10 ng/ml CD3mAb immobilized plates with HT29 which had been induced to express MHC class II molecules by interferon gamma. Flow cytometry analysis suggested that the lymphocyte population had a CD4/CD8 ratio similar to that observed in intact tissue sections and that there was no HT29 contamination of the lymphocytes isolated again from cocultured cells.

Human colonic intraepithelial lymphocytes from patients with inflammatory bowel disease fail to down-regulate proliferative responses of primed allogeneic peripheral blood mononuclear cells after rechallenge with antigens.

Human colonic intraepithelial lymphocytes from control subjects down-regulate the proliferative responses of primed allogeneic peripheral blood mononuclear cells on rechallenge with antigens or phytohaemagglutinin (PHA). In contrast, human colonic intraepithelial lymphocytes from patients with inflammatory bowel disease fail to down-regulate the proliferative responses of primed allogeneic peripheral blood mononuclear cells on rechallenge with antigens. These findings may be important in the development and maintenance of the mucosal immunological activation of inflammatory bowel disease.

Human colonic intraepithelial lymphocytes suppress in vitro immunoglobulin synthesis by autologous peripheral blood lymphocytes and lamina propria lymphocytes.

Human colonic intraepithelial lymphocytes have been shown to suppress the proliferation of autologous lamina propria lymphocytes and allogeneic peripheral blood mononuclear cells. This study has shown that, in vitro, intraepithelial lymphocytes suppress IgA and total immunoglobulin synthesis (but not IgG or IgM production) by autologous peripheral blood and lamina propria lymphocytes. This down regulation of IgA production is mediated by a soluble factor secreted by the intraepithelial lymphocytes.

Perceiving affective content in ambiguous visual stimuli: a component of emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence involves the accurate appraisal and expression of emotions in oneself and others and the regulation of emotion in a way that enhances living. One aspect of emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize the consensually agreed upon emotional qualities of objects in the environment. One hundred thirty-nine adults viewed 18 reproductions of faces, color swatches, and abstract designs and rated the emotional content of these visual stimuli.

Parvodicin, a novel glycopeptide from a new species, Actinomadura parvosata: discovery, taxonomy, activity and structure elucidation.

An extensive taxonomic investigation identified strain SK&F-AAJ-271 as a new species, designated Actinomadura parvosata. Fermentations of this organism produce a complex of acidic, lipophilic glycopeptide antibiotics, the parvodicins. Structures for seven of the isolated components were derived from a combination of mass spectral, high-field NMR and chemical techniques.
