Parental disability and children's educational, labor market and marital outcomes: Evidence from Nepal.

Background: The extent to which parental disability affects children's educational, employment, and marital outcomes in low-income countries is poorly understood, limiting the countries' efforts to design and implement disability-inclusive policies.

Objective: To assess the association between parental disability and children's education, employment, and marital outcomes in Nepal, and variations in these associations by sex.

Method: Using a nationally representative 15% sample of the 2011 census, we examine the relationship between parental disability and children's outcomes in a regression framework, controlling for potential confounders.

Empathy for pain in individuals with autistic traits during observation of static and dynamic stimuli.

Previous studies have reported that individuals with autistic traits, like those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), may have impaired empathic responses when observing static stimuli of others' pain. However, it remains unclear whether individuals with autistic traits exhibit impaired empathy for pain in response to dynamic stimuli. The present study addressed this question by recruiting 529 individuals whose autistic traits were assessed using the autism-spectrum quotient (AQ) questionnaire.

Overexpression of CD86 enhances the ability of THP-1 macrophages to defend against Talaromyces marneffei.

Background: Macrophages are the first line of defense against Talaromyces marneffei. CD86 is a surface molecule expressed on antigen-presenting cells, such as macrophages, that provide costimulatory signals necessary for T cell activation and survival. In a prior study, it was shown that as infection progressed, CD86 expression levels in macrophages considerably declined while CD86 concentrations in the supernatant significantly increased.

Volumetric analysis of effectiveness of embolization for preventing type II endoleaks following endovascular aortic aneurysm repair.

Objective: The presence of endoleak was associated with the failure of endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) treatment. The key to eliminating type II endoleak has shifted from reintervention to prevention. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of applying fibrin sealant to prevent type II endoleak in conjunction with EVAR.

Identification of prognostic immune-related lncRNAs in pancreatic cancer.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a critical role in the immune regulation and tumor microenvironment of pancreatic cancer (PaCa). To construct a novel immune-related prognostic risk model for PaCa and evaluate the prognostic prediction of lncRNAs, essential immune-related lncRNAs (IRlncRNAs) were identified by Pearson correlation analysis of differentially expressed immune-related genes (IRGs) and IRlncRNAs in PaCa from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and GTEx databases. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression was also applied to construct a prognostic risk model of IRlncRNAs, and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was further applied for functional annotation for these IRlncRNAs.

Mitochondrial dysfunction induced by increased fatty acid oxidation (FAO) is the culprit in the development of cardiac hypertrophy and dysfunction. This study was to explore whether the cardiac pleiotropic effects of atorvastatin were associated with FAO regulation, with a specific focus on carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT1).

Sex-specific differences in bone mineral density loss after sleeve gastrectomy.

Background: Sleeve gastrectomy is an effective bariatric procedure; however, sleeve gastrectomy-related adverse skeletal outcomes have been increasingly reported. High levels of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) have been documented to be a risk factor of bone mineral density (BMD) loss with different effects observed between sexes. The aim of this study was to identify sex-specific changes in BMD following sleeve gastrectomy and to evaluate the role of SHBG in this process.

Methods: We downloaded the mRNA expression data of BC patients from TCGA and GEO databases.

Effects of probiotic supplementation on related side effects after chemoradiotherapy in cancer patients.

Objectives: Chemotherapy and radiotherapy generally cause serious adverse side effects in cancer patients, thereby affecting subsequent treatment. Numerous studies have shown that taking probiotics is an option for preventing and treating these side effects. In this investigation, a meta-analysis of the effects of oral probiotics on side effects brought on by radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or chemoradiotherapy treatment will be carried out.

Charge-Dependent Signal Changes for Label-Free Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassays.

Label-free electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunoassays (-ECLIA), based on biomarker-induced ECL signal changes, have attracted increasing attention due to the simple, rapid, and low-cost detection of biomarkers without secondary antibodies and complicated labeling procedures. However, the interaction rule and mechanism between analytical interfaces and biomarkers have rarely been explored. Herein, the interactions between biomarkers and analytical interfaces constructed by assembly of a nanoluminophore and antibody-functionalized gold nanoparticles on an indium tin oxide electrode were studied.

Ruxolitinib on acute graft-versus-host disease prophylaxis after modified donor lymphocyte infusion.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of ruxolitinib on acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) prophylaxis and its impact on graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect in patients after modified donor lymphocyte infusion (mDLI).

Methods: We retrospectively included patients with relapsed leukemia after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) who received ruxolitinib prophylaxis between October 2018 and April 2020. The incidence of aGVHD, disease-free survival (DFS), overall survival (OS), and treatment safety were evaluated.

Calibrating stochastic traffic simulation models for safety and operational measures based on vehicle conflict distributions obtained from aerial and traffic camera videos.

Proper calibration process is of considerable importance for traffic safety evaluations using simulation models. Allowing for a pure with and without comparison under identical circumstances that is not directly testable in the field, microsimulation-based approach has drawn considerable attention for the performance evaluation of emerging technologies, such as connected vehicle (CV) safety applications. Different from the traditional approaches to evaluate mobility impacts, safety evaluations of such applications demand the simulation models to be well calibrated to match real-world safety conditions.

Adipogenesis is a complex cascade involved with the preadipocytes differentiation towards mature adipocytes, accelerating the onset of obesity. Histone methyltransferase SET and MYND domain-containing protein 2 (Smyd2), is involved in a variety of cellular biological functions but the epigenetic regulation of Smyd2 in adipogenesis and adipocyte differentiation remains unclear. Both Smyd2 siRNA and LLY-507, an inhibitor of Smyd2, were used to examine the effect of Smyd2 on adipogenesis and adipocyte differentiation in vitro.

Comparison of specimen quality among the standard suction, slow-pull, and wet suction techniques for EUS-FNA: A multicenter, prospective, randomized controlled trial.

Background And Objectives: Standard suction technique (SST), slow-pull technique (SPT), and wet suction technique (WEST) of EUS-FNA are designed to improve the diagnostic yields of solid and solid-cystic lesions. We conducted a multicenter, prospective, randomized crossover trial to compare SST, SPT, and WEST on specimen quality and diagnostic accuracy using a 22G needle.

Methods: Patients with solid or solid-cystic lesions referred for EUS-FNA at four tertiary hospitals from December 2017 to August 2019 were considered eligible.

A New Sliding Mode Control Algorithm of IGC System for Intercepting Great Maneuvering Target Based on EDO.

To intercept the great maneuvering target, combining with the sliding mode and the extended disturbance observer, a new control algorithm for integrated guidance and control (IGC) system is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the paper formulates the Missile-Target problem. Then the paper establishes an uncertain IGC dynamic model where the nonlinearities, the perturbations and the maneuvering of the target are regarded as disturbance.

Establishment of a bipedal rat model of lumbar facet joint osteoarthritis using intraarticular injection of urinary plasminogen activator.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that by injecting uPA into the lumbar facet joints (LFJ) of normal rats, a rat LFJOA animal model can be successfully established. However, there is no evidence that intraarticular injection of uPA can induce or much serious osteoarthritis in bipedal rats, which biomechanics is much more similar to human than normal rats. To investigate whether intraarticular injection of urinary plasminogen activator (uPA) can induce LFJOA and low back pain symptoms in bipedal rats.

Performance of Xpert MTB/RIF for Diagnosis of Tuberculosis in HIV-Infected People in China: A Retrospective, Single-Center Study.

BACKGROUND There are few studies of GeneXpert MTB/RIF (hereafter referred to as Xpert) detection technology in HIV-infected people in China. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the value of Xpert in HIV/TB co-infected patients and to provide reference and guidance for the diagnosis of TB in HIV-infected populations. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study reviewed medical records of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients hospitalized at the Infection Center of Beijing Ditan Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University from January 2018 to May 2020, and patients diagnosed with pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis were screened as study subjects.

Status and epidemiological characteristics of high-risk human papillomavirus infection in multiple centers in Shenyang.

The different human papillomavirus (HPV) strains cause warts in various regions of the body. However, considering that the status and genotype distribution of HPV infection in women in Shenyang remain unknown, herein, we investigated the epidemiological characteristics of high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) infection in women in Shenyang, as well as the current state of HPV infection in Shenyang, to provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer. From December 2018 to December 2021, 6,432 urban and rural women from the Liaoning Cancer Hospital and the Sujiatun Women and Infants' Hospital were assessed via the Thinprep cytology test (TCT) and HR-HPV detection.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most common cancers globally, with a poor prognosis and ambiguous therapy target. As a hallmark of cancer, metabolism reprogramming plays a critical role in the development of ESCC; however, the genomic alterations underlying this reconfiguration are still largely unknown. We have comprehensively studied the metabolic genomic variations in an integrated ESCC cohort of 490 patients and characterized the somatic alterations associated with various metabolic pathways.
