Article Synopsis
  • Advances in orthodontics now allow adult patients with skeletal Class II malocclusion to benefit from non-surgical treatments using temporary anchorage devices (TADs), specifically maxillary molar distalization, instead of relying solely on surgery.
  • This case report details the treatment of a 50-year-old female with Class II malocclusion who utilized an infra-zygomatic crest (IZC) bone screw for effective tooth movement without unwanted side effects.
  • The use of bone screws enhances anchorage, minimizes reciprocal effects, and lessens the need for patient compliance, ultimately improving both dental alignment and facial aesthetics in adult orthodontic patients.

This review aims to evaluate the current ethical dilemmas faced by healthcare practitioners, especially in dentistry, and analyze how conventionalism with ethical norms influences these challenges. By exploring the balance between evolving healthcare practices and established ethical principles, the review aims to provide insights into the ongoing ethical discussions and dilemmas within the field. A systematic search for relevant articles published between 2000 and July 2024 was conducted across various databases, including Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, and EBSCO host.

Transmigration of mandibular canine teeth is a rare dental anomaly characterized by the tooth's aberrant migration through the alveolar bone. This deviation from the expected eruption pathway can lead to tooth impaction, root resorption, periodontal problems, and aesthetic concerns. The exact cause of transmigration is not fully understood, but it is believed to be influenced by a combination of genetic, developmental, and environmental factors.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed data from ten clinical trials to see how different medications taken alongside advanced therapies for ulcerative colitis (UC) affect treatment outcomes.
  • Among the 6044 patients studied, many were using additional medications (like corticosteroids or 5-aminosalicylates), but most did not significantly alter the efficacy or safety of the advanced therapies.
  • However, using immunomodulators was linked to a lower chance of achieving clinical remission, especially with treatments that are not TNF antagonists.

Odontogenic cysts are fluid-filled sacs arising from tooth-developing tissues within the jawbone, often causing swelling, pain, or displacement of teeth. A dentigerous cyst, specifically encapsulating the unerupted tooth's crown, can interfere with dental development by displacing teeth, causing resorption of adjacent teeth, and complicating dental or surgical interventions. This case report represents a long-term follow-up of a 35-year-old male with a large mandibular dentigerous cyst extending to the lower right border of the mandible, associated with a horizontally impacted third molar in the lower right mandibular region.

Background: Based on the present global burden of oral diseases, unmet dental needs affect a more significant population worldwide. It is characterised by the need for dental care but receiving delayed or no care. The contributing factors include lack of knowledge about oral health, its consequences, and the availability of dental services.

Background: Understanding the optical characteristics, especially the translucency patterns (TPs) in teeth can assist clinicians in creating biomimetic restorations.

Aim: This study assessed the differences in enamel TPs and the area of translucency (AOT) in the most dominant teeth of an individual's smile according to their age and gender.

Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 140 consented individuals.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the risk of serious infections in Crohn's disease patients treated with adalimumab, focusing on how treatment response affects this risk.
  • Among 1,515 patients, those who responded well to treatment (50.4%) had significantly fewer moderate to severe symptoms and lower steroid and opiate usage compared to nonresponders.
  • Findings revealed that responders were 34% less likely to experience serious infections, suggesting effective treatment leads to better disease control and reduced infection risk.

Article Synopsis
  • A systematic review and network meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of various approved therapies for achieving early symptomatic remission in patients with moderate-severe ulcerative colitis (UC).
  • The analysis found that upadacitinib was the most effective treatment, significantly outperforming other therapies at weeks 2, 4, and 6.
  • While some treatments like tumor necrosis factor α antagonists were better than ozanimod early on, upadacitinib consistently showed the highest rates of remission in patients.

The purpose behind the innovation of modified nasoalveolar moulding appliance was to achieve simultaneous anteroposterior and transverse correction in bilateral cleft cases with minimal vomeroid bending. This paper presents a 3D Versascrew appliance that has been used for presurgical nasoalveolar moulding in a 15-day-old neonate with bilateral cleft. Treatment was initiated at 30 days and continued for 90 days following which mild expansion of posterior maxilla with establishment of arch continuity and concomitant improvement in nasal morphology was achieved towards the end.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent advancements in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) have created a need for more comparative efficacy trials to determine the best therapeutic strategies.
  • Recent trials have shown that vedolizumab is more effective than adalimumab for ulcerative colitis, while ustekinumab did not outperform adalimumab for Crohn's disease; biosimilars have proven similar in safety and efficacy to their originals.
  • Head-to-head trials are essential but face challenges like high costs and limited applicability, prompting the use of alternative methods like network meta-analyses and real-world studies for better insights into treatment effectiveness. *
