The extraction of DNA from okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) is challenging due to its high mucilage and polysaccharide content, which can hinder both the yield and quality of DNA. In this study, an improved DNA isolation method is described incorporating a key modification being the use of solution I (1 M NaCl and 2% Sarcosyl) as a pre-treatment before applying the CTAB buffer, resulting in high-purity genomic DNA in just 1 h and 45 min., making it suitable for handling large sample sizes due to its rapid processing capabilities.

The present study reports the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in powder form using the leaf extract of Azadirachta indica. The synthesis of AgNPs was confirmed by UV-vis spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, FESEM, and EDX. The synthesized AgNPs were in a powdered state and dispersed completely in 5% polyethylene glycol (PEG) and demonstrated prolonged shelf life and enhanced bioavailability over a year without any aggregation.

Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/Cas9 system allows biologists to edit genomic DNA of any cell in precise and specific way, entailing great potential for crop improvement, drug development and gene therapy. The system involves a nuclease (Cas9) and a designed guide RNA that are involved in wide range of applications such as genome modification, transcriptional modulation, genomic loci marking and RNA tracking. The limitation of the technique, in view of resistance of thymidine-rich genome to Cas9 cleavage, has now been overcome by the use of Cpf1 nuclease.

Background: Begomoviruses have emerged as serious problem for vegetable and fiber crops in the recent past, frequently in tropical and subtropical region of the world. The association of begomovirus with eggplant yellow mosaic disease is hitherto unknown apart from one report from Thailand. A survey in Nagpur, Central India, in 2009-2010 showed severe incidence of eggplant yellow mosaic disease.
