Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on a protein called SPOUT1/CENP-32, which is crucial for proper chromosome alignment during cell division.
  • When this protein is depleted, it causes problems like centrosome detachment and chromosome misalignment, leading to significant developmental issues.
  • The research also links genetic variants in humans to neurodevelopmental delays and identifies a disorder called SpADMiSS, characterized by symptoms like developmental delays, microcephaly, seizures, and short stature due to defects in cell division.

Sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy (SHML), an alternative term for Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD), is a rare benign idiopathic immune-related lymphoproliferative condition. The central nervous system (CNS) has been documented to be involved in RDD, although lymph nodes are the organs that are most frequently and primarily associated with the disease manifestation. Nonetheless, CNS involvement in RDD is rare and poorly understood.

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) affects approximately 1 in 4000 individuals. It has many different genetic etiologies and therefore diagnosis can be challenging. Understanding the different testing methodologies is beneficial for clinicians and researchers in order to select the best testing method, whether it be panel testing, whole exome sequencing, or whole genome sequencing for individuals affected with RP.

Partial tetrasomy of distal 13q has a reported association with a variable phenotype including microphthalmia, ear abnormalities, hypotelorism, facial dysmorphisms, urogenital defects, pigmentation and skin defects, and severe learning difficulties. A wide range of mosaicism has been reported, which may, to some extent, account for the variable spectrum of observed phenotypes. We report here a pregnancy conceived using intrauterine insemination in a 32-year-old female with a history of infertility.

Purpose: Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), such as intellectual disability (ID) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), exhibit genetic and phenotypic heterogeneity, making them difficult to differentiate without a molecular diagnosis. The Clinical Genome Resource Intellectual Disability/Autism Gene Curation Expert Panel (GCEP) uses systematic curation to distinguish ID/ASD genes that are appropriate for clinical testing (ie, with substantial evidence supporting their relationship to disease) from those that are not.

Methods: Using the Clinical Genome Resource gene-disease validity curation framework, the ID/Autism GCEP classified genes frequently included on clinical ID/ASD testing panels as Definitive, Strong, Moderate, Limited, Disputed, Refuted, or No Known Disease Relationship.

All-dielectric metamaterials conforming to an optical reflectionless potential (ORP) offer broadband, omni-directional suppression of reflection. Though they are predicted to possess broadband negative group velocity dispersion (GVD), ultrashort pulse propagation through such materials has not been studied so far, to the best of our knowledge. In this work, we demonstrate negative GVD and group delay dispersion over broadband covering visible to near-infrared wavelengths.

Background: Primary coenzyme Q10 deficiency is a rare disease that results in diverse and variable clinical manifestations. Nephropathy, myopathy and neurologic involvement are commonly associated, however retinopathy has also been observed with certain pathogenic variants of genes in the coenzyme Q biosynthesis pathway. In this report, we describe a novel presentation of the disease that includes nephropathy and retinopathy without neurological involvement, and which is the result of a compound heterozygous state arising from the inheritance of two recessive potentially pathogenic variants, previously not described.

Optically triggered twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) states in donor-acceptor chromophores form the molecular basis for designing bioimaging probes that sense polarity, microviscosity, and pH . However, a lack of predictive understanding of the "twist" localization precludes a rational design of TICT-based dyes. Here, using femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy, we reveal a distinct Raman signature of the TICT state for a stilbazolium-class mitochondrial staining dye.
