Background: Development of PRAKI due to various gestation-related complication leads to poor maternal and foetal outcome. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of PRAKI resulting in CKD, associated factors and feto-maternal outcome.

Methods: In this prospective observational study patients with PRAKI requiring ≥ 1 session of haemodialysis were included and followed up for 6 months to assess renal outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients with cirrhosis are at high risk for acute kidney injury (AKI), leading to poor outcomes, and a study was conducted in India to evaluate the causes and effects of AKI in these patients.
  • 243 cirrhotic patients were studied, with the majority being males; alcohol was the leading cause of cirrhosis, and most AKI cases were classified as pre-renal or hepatorenal syndrome.
  • The study found a significant correlation between the stages of AKI and liver function scores, with an in-hospital mortality rate of 18.5%, emphasizing the need for renal biopsy in non-responding patients for better treatment guidance.*

Unlabelled: Resistant nephrotic syndrome is a group of disorders with diverse histological findings, which are by definition resistant to corticosteroids given in adequate dose for adequate duration and many are resistant to other therapy as well. In many patients progression to end-stage renal disease is the ultimate outcome. The role of B cells has not been fully explained in man, agents that specifically interfere with B cells would ideally represent the first step toward selective therapy.

Background: The effect of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on a developing nation is sparsely reported and, more importantly, the discrepancies in public and private sectors are underexplored.

Methods: We retrospectively investigated the data on the effect of COVID-19 on renal transplantation between 2019 and 2020 in a nationwide analysis from 8 public and 10 private sector hospitals of India.

Results: On comparing the yearly data, the number of living-related transplants and deceased donor transplants declined by 48% (2610 vs 1370) and 49% (194 vs 99), respectively.

Postpartum acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the serious complications of pregnancy and is associated with high mortality and morbidity. We conducted this study to determine the characteristics and outcome of the most severe form of postpartum AKI requiring dialysis. This prospective, observational study was conducted in Sawai Man Singh Medical College, Jaipur.

Peritonitis is a common and life-threatening complication of acute peritoneal dialysis (PD). Diagnosis requires the presence of clinical signs of peritonitis which are nonspecific and laboratory investigations [total leukocyte count (TLC), Gram-stain, and culture of PD effluent fluid] which are time-consuming and not available at the bedside. In this study, we evaluated the use of leukocyte esterase reagent strip (LERS) as a bedside test to diagnose peritonitis in patients undergoing acute PD.

Background: Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) has a significant mortality rate. In developing countries, mortality due to AKI is high due to lack of access to dialysis facilities and related cost. The main goal of International Society of Nephrology (ISN) 0 by 25 initiative is to eliminate deaths due to AKI.

Hepatitis B and C are known to affect kidneys in a number of ways. Glomerular diseases associated with hepatitis B and C include membranous nephropathy (MN), membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN), focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, immunoglobulin A nephropathy, rarely amyloidosis, and fibrillary and immunotactoid glomerulopathy. In a retrospective analysis of kidney biopsy of 534 patients, we found 16 (2.

We undertook this study to assess the response of hepatitis B vaccination in dialysis patients and the effect of vitamin D level on the immunogenicity to hepatitis B vaccination. It was an observational study, which included 60 patients of end-stage renal disease on maintenance dialysis. Patients with anti-HBs antibody positive at baseline were excluded.

Background: Iron deficiency anaemia is common in patients with non-dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease (NDD-CKD) and is often treated with oral or intravenous (IV) iron therapy. This trial compared the efficacy and safety of IV iron isomaltoside 1000 (Monofer®) and oral iron in NDD-CKD patients with renal-related anaemia.

Methods: The trial was a Phase III open-label, comparative, multicentre, non-inferiority trial conducted in 351 iron-deficient NDD-CKD patients, randomized 2:1 to either iron isomaltoside 1000 (Group A) or iron sulphate administered as 100 mg elemental oral iron twice daily (200 mg daily) for 8 weeks (Group B).
