Objective: Liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are chronic liver diseases that can cause serious health problems. Meanwhile, the methods used to detect liver cirrhosis and HCC are limited. Apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) is a protein that makes up high-density lipoprotein (HDL), which plays a role in liver cirrhosis and HCC, and can be used as a biomarker.

Liver diseases are the growing health problem with no clinically approved therapy available. Activated hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are the key driver cells responsible for extracellular matrix deposition, the hallmark of liver fibrosis. Fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2) has shown to possess anti-fibrotic effects in fibrotic diseases including liver fibosis, and promote tissue regeneration.

Spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase expressed in most hematopoietic cells and non-hematopoietic cells and play a crucial role in both immune and non-immune biological responses. SYK mediate diverse cellular responses an immune-receptor tyrosine-based activation motifs (ITAMs)-dependent signalling pathways, ITAMs-independent and ITAMs-semi-dependent signalling pathways. In liver, SYK expression has been observed in parenchymal (hepatocytes) and non-parenchymal cells (hepatic stellate cells and Kupffer cells), and found to be positively correlated with the disease severity.

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the leading cause of cirrhosis worldwide and the most rapidly growing indication for liver transplantation. Macrophages are the important cellular component in the inflammatory milieu in NASH. Inflammatory and pro-fibrotic mediators produced by macrophages causes significant tissue injury in many inflammatory diseases.

Clinicians and wound care nurses in Indonesia usually use Nigella sativa oil (NSO) gel and aloe vera (AV) gel to treat diabetic ulcers. However, there are no studies directly comparing the effects of NSO and AV gels on wound healing, so it is unknown which of these 2 plants is better at promoting wound healing in diabetic ulcers. If the comparative efficacy between these 2 gels was known, it would be important evidence favoring the clinical use of one or the other product in Indonesia.

Transfusion in the treatment of thalassemia gives rise to iron deposits in many organs. Since there are many obstacles in the use of deferoxamin (DFO) as an iron chelating agent, it is important to find another alternative therapy that can act as iron chelation. The study aims to compare the histopathological pictures of the heart and spleen in iron-induced rats after administration of DFO and nanoparticles of green tea extract.
