Article Synopsis
  • This study explores the mechanical cost of transport in human walking using a simplified approach that focuses on the center of mass kinematics.
  • It analyzes motion data to calculate velocities, accelerations, and applied forces through inverse dynamics.
  • The findings can inform rehabilitation efforts by providing a simple way to assess gait characteristics based on mechanical cost per step.

To assess the adaptability of Camellia oleifera for introduction in new growth locations, this study evaluated 10 representative C. oleifera cultivars from the main areas in China where this oil-producing evergreen crop is grown. Cluster analysis, correlation analysis, and membership function analysis were used to evaluate various indices of the selected C.

Background: There are limited studies on Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors (SLCTs) and no data in the population of Chinese patients with SLCTs from the genetic level. In addition, previous studies on SLCTs have focused exclusively on mutations in the DICER1 gene and no data exists on the genetic landscape of SLCTs.

Methods: Patients with moderately or poorly differentiated SLCTs who underwent surgical resection between January 2012 and October 2018 in our institution were recruited.

The SLC4 genes are all capable of producing multiple variants by alternative splicing or using alternative promoters. The physiological consequences of such diversity are of great interest to investigators. Here, we identified two novel variants of the electroneutral Na(+)/HCO3- cotransporter NBCn1, one full-length starting with "MIPL" and the other Nt-truncated starting with "MDEL".

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the Na(+)/HCO(3)(-) cotransporter NBCn2, primarily found in the central nervous system (CNS), highlighting its physiological and pathological importance, but noting limited knowledge of its variants and expression in other tissues.
  • Researchers identified new variants of the Slc4a10 gene that have a different 5' untranslated region, which affects their function and activity in transporting bicarbonate.
  • Findings reveal that NBCn2 proteins are predominantly in the CNS with the original amino-terminus, while the novel amino-terminus variants are more common in the kidney and small intestine, indicating that the expression of NBCn2 is regulated differently depending on tissue type.

The cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase (CAD) is a key enzyme in lignin biosynthesis as it catalyzes the final step in the synthesis of monolignols. A cDNA sequence encoding the CAD gene was isolated from the leaves of Ginkgo biloba L, designated as GbCAD1. The full-length cDNA of GbCAD1 was 1,494 bp containing a 1,074 bp open reading frame encoding a polypeptide of 357 amino acids with a calculated molecular mass of 38.
