We synthesize four novel quasi-one-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid iron chloride compounds (CHNHFeCl, CH(NH)FeCl, C(NH)FeCl, and CHNFeCl) and characterize their structural and magnetic properties. These materials crystallize in a hexagonal perovskite-type structure, constituting a triangular array of face-sharing iron chloride octahedra chains running along the -axis, isolated from one another by the organic cation. Through magnetization and heat capacity measurements, we find that the intrachain coupling is weakly ferromagnetic for each variant.

Microenvironment signals are potent determinants of cell fate and arbiters of tissue homeostasis, however understanding how different microenvironment factors coordinately regulate cellular phenotype has been experimentally challenging. Here we used a high-throughput microenvironment microarray comprised of 2640 unique pairwise signals to identify factors that support proliferation and maintenance of primary human mammary luminal epithelial cells. Multiple microenvironment factors that modulated luminal cell number were identified, including: HGF, NRG1, BMP2, CXCL1, TGFB1, FGF2, PDGFB, RANKL, WNT3A, SPP1, HA, VTN, and OMD.

To understand the effects of a high-fat diet (HFD) on lung cancer progression and biomarkers, we here used an inducible mutant epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-driven lung cancer transgenic mouse model fed a regular diet (RD) or HFD. The HFD lung cancer (LC-HFD) group exhibited significant tumor formation and deterioration, such as higher EGFR activity and proliferation marker expression, compared with the RD lung cancer (LC-RD) group. Transcriptomic analysis of the lung tissues revealed that the significantly changed genes in the LC-HFD group were highly enriched in immune-related signaling pathways, suggesting that an HFD alters the immune microenvironment to promote tumor growth.

Astrocytes and brain endothelial cells are components of the neurovascular unit that comprises the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and their dysfunction contributes to pathogenesis in Huntington's disease (HD). Defining the contribution of these cells to disease can inform cell-type-specific effects and uncover new disease-modifying therapeutic targets. The phenotype of a cell and its underlying molecular state is strongly influenced by extracellular signals, including growth factors, hormones, and extracellular matrix proteins. While these signals are normally tightly controlled, their dysregulation leads to phenotypic and molecular states associated with diverse diseases. The structure, magnetic properties, and Eu and Sn Mössbauer spectra of the solid-solution EuSrZnSnAs are presented. A new commensurately modulated structure is described for EuZnSnAs (3 space group, average structure) that closely resembles the original structural description in the monoclinic 2/ space group with layers of Eu, puckered hexagonal ZnAs sheets, and ZnAs ethane-like isolated pillars. The solid-solution EuSrZnSnAs (0 < < 10) is found to crystallize in the commensurately modulated 3 space group, related to the parent phase but lacking the mirror symmetry.

Context: West Virginia (WV) is afflicted by high rates of teenage pregnancy and births, opioid usage during pregnancy, and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome births. Current efforts are ineffective at reducing teenage pregnancy and opioid misuse. While pregnancy and opioid usage may appear to be separate issues, a number of associations suggest adolescent pregnancy, opioid use, and other health-related outcomes are part of a cluster of negative health conditions that should be addressed holistically.
