Collagenase injections for Dupuytren's contracture: prospective cohort study in a public health setting.

Background: Dupuytren's disease causes a flexion contracture of the hand that limits hand function and reduces quality of life. Traditional management is surgical excision which is associated with potentially serious complications. A viable alternative is collagenase Clostridium histolyticum (CCH) (Xiaflex®; Pfizer Australia) which is an effective, safe, outpatient treatment that to date has no published data in the Australian public health setting.

Irreducible Lateral Patellar Dislocation: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Background: Acute patellar dislocation is a common injury in young people, especially in adolescent females and athletes. Lateral dislocation is the most common form of patellar dislocation and often reduces spontaneously or with simple manipulation and closed reduction. We report a rare circumstance in which the patella was irreducible and required manipulation and closed reduction in the operating room.

Punching Glass: A 10-Year Consecutive Series.

Introduction: Punching glass can cause severe and debilitating injuries. The literature is scant in regards to the injury patterns, optimal management, and preventative strategies. We have reviewed our experience of these injuries at a regional Australian hospital.

Transtympanic Facial Nerve Paralysis: A Review of the Literature.

Facial nerve paralysis because of penetrating trauma through the external auditory canal is extremely rare, with a paucity of published literature. The objective of this study is to review the literature on transtympanic facial nerve paralysis and increase physician awareness of this uncommon injury through discussion of its clinical presentation, management and prognosis. We also aim to improve patient outcomes in those that have sustained this type of injury by suggesting an optimal management plan.

Volar dislocation of the index, middle, and ring carpometacarpal joints: a review.

Dislocation of the index, middle, and ring carpometacarpal joints is an extremely rare injury pattern, with a paucity of published cases. We reviewed the literature and analyzed our own experience to familiarize clinicians with this rare condition through discussion of its clinical presentation, diagnostic considerations, and management. We present the rare case of volar-radial dislocation of the index, middle, and ring carpometacarpal joints in a 61-year-old woman.
