Background Ventricular performance is temporarily reduced following surgical atrial septal defect closure. Cardiopulmonary bypass and changes in loading conditions are considered important factors, but this phenomenon is incompletely understood. We aim to characterize biventricular performance following surgical and percutaneous atrial septal defect closure and to relate biomarkers to ventricular performance following intervention.

Coarctation of aorta(CoA), complicated by endarteritis in a children is very rare. Here we present a case of endarteritis in an unoperated CoA in a four year old boy. CoA had been diagnosed in the referring hospital, yet the diagnosis of endocarditis distal to CoA, was made in the tertiary center using modified transthoracic echo windows or focused views.

Background: Myocardial deformation by speckle tracking echocardiography provides additional information on left ventricular function. Values of myocardial deformation (strain and strain rate) depend on the type of ultrasound machine and software that is used. Normative values for QLAB (Philips) are scarce, especially for children.
