Objective: Electrochemical microsensors based on noble metals can give essential information on their microenvironment with high spatio-temporal resolution. However, most advanced chemo- and biosensors lack the long-term stability for physiological monitoring of brain tissue beyond an acute application. Noble metal electrodes are widely used as neural interfaces, particularly for stimulating in the central nervous system.
