Lactational mastitis is a common condition in breastfeeding women that manifests as painful, swollen, and erythematous breasts. Customary treatment guidelines include antibiotics, cold compression, and continued breastfeeding. This report highlights a unique case in which the symptomatic progression of lactational mastitis was alleviated with the utilization of red cabbage and warm compresses.

Background: Existing literature about the psychological side effects of hormonal contraception (HC) is limited. The goal of this study is to better characterize patients' subjective experiences with HC, its side effects, and contraception counseling.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional, survey-based study using a convenience sample of patients who had used HC at some point in their lives.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by widespread degeneration of monoaminergic (especially dopaminergic) networks, manifesting with a number of both motor and non-motor symptoms. Regional alterations to dopamine D receptors in PD patients are documented in striatal and some extrastriatal areas, and medications that target D receptors can improve motor and non-motor symptoms. However, data regarding the combined pattern of D receptor binding in both striatal and extrastriatal regions in PD are limited.

The prefrontal cortex (PFC) is usually defined as the frontal cortical area receiving a mediodorsal thalamic (MD) innervation. Certain areas in the medial wall of the rat frontal area receive a MD innervation. A second frontal area that is the target of MD projections is located dorsal to the rhinal sulcus and often referred to as the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC).

Letrozole-induced hepatitis with autoimmune features: a rare adverse drug reaction with review of the relevant literature.

While aromatase inhibitors (AIs) have been known to cause minor elevations in liver enzymes, severe hepatotoxicity is rare. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of Letrozole-induced hepatitis with autoimmune features. A 70-year-old female with estrogen positive, invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast, presented with jaundice 3 months after starting letrozole.

Connecting imaging mass spectrometry and magnetic resonance imaging-based anatomical atlases for automated anatomical interpretation and differential analysis.

Imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) is a molecular imaging technology that can measure thousands of biomolecules concurrently without prior tagging, making it particularly suitable for exploratory research. However, the data size and dimensionality often makes thorough extraction of relevant information impractical. To help guide and accelerate IMS data analysis, we recently developed a framework that integrates IMS measurements with anatomical atlases, opening up opportunities for anatomy-driven exploration of IMS data.

Cortical hierarchy governs rat claustrocortical circuit organization.

The claustrum is a telencephalic gray matter structure with various proposed functions, including sensory integration and attentional allocation. Underlying these concepts is the reciprocal connectivity of the claustrum with most, if not all, areas of the cortex. What remains to be elucidated to inform functional hypotheses further is whether a pattern exists in the strength of connectivity between a given cortical area and the claustrum.

Functional Connectome Analysis of Dopamine Neuron Glutamatergic Connections in Forebrain Regions.

Unlabelled: In the ventral tegmental area (VTA), a subpopulation of dopamine neurons express vesicular glutamate transporter 2 and make glutamatergic connections to nucleus accumbens (NAc) and olfactory tubercle (OT) neurons. However, their glutamatergic connections across the forebrain have not been explored systematically. To visualize dopamine neuron forebrain projections and to enable photostimulation of their axons independent of transmitter status, we virally transfected VTA neurons with channelrhodopsin-2 fused to enhanced yellow fluorescent protein (ChR2-EYFP) and used DAT(IREScre) mice to restrict expression to dopamine neurons.

A role for the p75 neurotrophin receptor in axonal degeneration and apoptosis induced by oxidative stress.

The p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75(NTR)) mediates the death of specific populations of neurons during the development of the nervous system or after cellular injury. The receptor has also been implicated as a contributor to neurodegeneration caused by numerous pathological conditions. Because many of these conditions are associated with increases in reactive oxygen species, we investigated whether p75(NTR) has a role in neurodegeneration in response to oxidative stress.

Dopamine denervation of the prefrontal cortex increases expression of the astrocytic glutamate transporter GLT-1.

Both dopamine and glutamate are critically involved in cognitive processes such as working memory. Astrocytes, which express dopamine receptors, are essential elements in the termination of glutamatergic signaling: the astrocytic glutamate transporter GLT-1 is responsible for > 90% of cortical glutamate uptake. The effect of dopamine depletion on glutamate transporters in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) remains unknown.

Antipsychotic drug-like effects of the selective M4 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor positive allosteric modulator VU0152100.

Accumulating evidence suggests that selective M4 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor (mAChR) activators may offer a novel strategy for the treatment of psychosis. However, previous efforts to develop selective M4 activators were unsuccessful because of the lack of M4 mAChR subtype specificity and off-target muscarinic adverse effects. We recently developed VU0152100, a highly selective M4 positive allosteric modulator (PAM) that exerts central effects after systemic administration.
