Purpose: The aim of the study is to compare the efficacy, safety, and globe akinesia between retrobulbar anesthesia, sub-Tenon anesthesia, and medial canthus episcleral anesthesia for 25-gauge posterior vitrectomy.
Methods: A total of 340 25-gauge vitrectomy data sheets were retrospectively collected between November 2017 and June 2019. Ninety patients were included in the study.
Purpose: To report the results of ultrastructural analysis of the postoperative effects of ab interno trabeculectomy in a human eye.
Setting: Department of Ophthalmology, Palmanova Hospital, Palmanova, Udine, Italy.
Methods: A 60-year-old woman with cataract and glaucoma had enucleation for a choroidal melanoma 10 days after ab interno trabeculectomy combined with phacoemulsification.
Aims: To identify the phenotypic variations in 6 related individuals affected by a novel mutation in the retinal degeneration slow/peripherin gene.
Methods: Ten family members underwent ophthalmologic assessment with slit-lamp biomicroscopy, dilated fundus examination, fundus photography, autofluorescence imaging and electrophysiological tests. Genomic DNA was extracted from blood samples of all family members (n = 15) using the standard salting-out procedure.
Objective: To evaluate intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide before laser panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) in the treatment of proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
Methods: This interventional case series included 9 patients with bilateral proliferative diabetic retinopathy. One eye received intravitreal triamcinolone before PRP (injected eye) and the other, PRP alone (control eye).

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a novel surgical approach, ab interno trabeculectomy, in a combined procedure (clear corneal phacoemulsification + ab interno trabeculectomy) for the management of concurrent cataract and glaucoma with prognostic factors for filtration failure.
Setting: Department of Ophthalmology, Palmanova Hospital, Udine, Italy.
Methods: A prospective noncomparative case series of 11 eyes of 11 consecutive cataract patients with medically uncontrolled primary open-angle glaucoma or pseudoexfoliation glaucoma was performed.

The ocular disposition of levofloxacin in patients receiving two 500-mg oral doses 10 h apart before cataract surgery was assessed with the intent of defining drug ocular exposure over time. The mean aqueous humor concentrations persisted above 1.5 mg/liter between 1.

Background: The spectrum of ocular indications in which intravitreal injections of triamcinolone acetonide may be therapeutically useful has recently been expanding.
Methods: Prospective clinical interventional case study in a young adult male with florid proliferative diabetic retinopathy (FPDR).
Results: A greater reduction of retinal thickening and fluorescein leakage from retinal new vessels was observed in the right eye after intravitreal injection of triamcinolone followed by scatter panretinal photocoagulation (PKP) than in the left eye treated only by laser.
Background: Photodynamic therapy with verteporfin (Visudyne; Novartis, Bülach, Switzerland) has been proposed for the treatment of subfoveal choroidal neovascularization secondary to pathologic myopia. We retrospectively evaluated the effects of verteporfin therapy of subfoveal recurrences of extrafoveal myopic CNV previously treated with thermal laser photocoagulation.
Methods: Twelve eyes, previously treated with thermal laser photocoagulation for extrafoveal choroidal neovascularization, received photodynamic therapy with verteporfin for subfoveal recurrence of choroidal new vessels.
