An Exploratory Study on Resistance Spot Welding of Titanium Alloy Ti-6Al-4V.

Resistance spot welding (RSW) is one of the most effective welding methods for titanium alloys, in particular Ti-6Al-4V. Ti-6Al-4V is one of the most used materials with its good ductility, high strength, weldability, corrosion resistance, and heat resistance. RSW and Ti-6Al-4V materials are often widely used in industrial manufacturing, particularly in automotive and aerospace industries.

Co-Ex: A Torque-Controllable Lower Body Exoskeleton for Dependable Human-Robot Co-existence.

In this paper, we present our research study concerning the design and development of an exoskeleton that aims to provide 3D walking support with minimum number of actuators. Following a prior simulation study, the joint configuration was primarily determined. In order for the exoskeleton to possess advanced characteristics, the following design criteria were investigated: i) all the actuators (hip/knee/ankle) were deployed around the waist area to decrease leg weight and improve wearability, ii) custom-built series elastic actuators were used to power system for high fidelity torque-controllability, iii) 3D walking support is potentially enabled with reduced power requirements.

Autofluorescence imaging in recurrent oral squamous cell carcinoma.

The survival of patients with oral cancer is decreased by locoregional recurrence after an initial multimodal treatment. In order to identify lesions in the oral cavity for a possible recurrence, clinical evaluation as well as MRI or CT scanning is advised. The evaluation of mucosa lesions is hampered by changes related to radio- and chemotherapy as well as reconstruction with tissue flaps.

The New York State Collaborative Care Initiative: 2012-2014.

We report on a partnership between the NYS Department of Health and Office of Mental Health that delivered the full integration of depression care into primary medical care. Factors associated with shared decision-making preferences among veterans with serious mental illness.

Objective: This study evaluated preferences for shared decision making with respect to mental health treatment in a sample of veterans who were diagnosed as having serious mental illness.

Methods: Participants were 239 outpatients receiving care from the Department of Veterans Affairs who completed self-report questionnaires assessing demographic factors, shared decision-making preferences, psychiatric symptom severity, and the therapeutic relationship with their second-generation antipsychotic prescribers (N=21). Preferences were assessed in regard to three components of decision making: knowledge about mental illness, options about mental health treatment, and decisions about mental health care.

Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura in pulmonary-renal syndromes.

Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura pathologically consists of a thrombotic microangiopathy that classically spares lung tissues. We describe a case of TTP that presented as a pulmonary-renal syndrome. In reviewing the international literature, pulmonary involvement is not as rare as once was thought, and the diagnosis of TTP should be considered in the differential diagnosis of pulmonary-renal syndromes.

The lipid products of phosphoinositide 3-kinase increase cell motility through protein kinase C.

Phosphoinositide 3-kinase has been implicated as an activator of cell motility in a variety of recent studies, yet the role of its lipid product, phosphatidylinositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (PtdIns-3,4,5-P3), has yet to be elucidated. In this study, three independent preparations of PtdIns-3,4,5-P3 were found to increase the motility of NIH 3T3 cells when examined utilizing a microchemotaxis chamber. Dipalmitoyl L-alpha-phosphatidyl-D-myo-inositol 3,4,5-triphosphate (Di-C16-PtdIns-3,4,5-P3) also produced actin reorganization and membrane ruffling.

The Bronx Aging Study is a 10-year prospective investigation of very elderly volunteers (mean age at study entry, 79 years; range, 75-85 years) designed to assess risk factors for dementia and coronary and cerebrovascular (stroke) diseases. Entry criteria included the absence of terminal illness and dementia. All subjects (n = 350) included in this report had at least two lipid and lipoprotein determinations.
