Background: This multicentre retrospective cohort study assessed whether functional outcomes after primary reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) are favourable compared to secondary placement in elderly patients with displaced proximal humerus fractures (PHFs).

Methods: Fifty-three patients with primary and 32 with secondary RSA were included. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were assessed: Constant-Murley Score (CMS), Oxford Shoulder Score (OSS), Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) score, and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS).

Neglected anterior glenohumeral dislocations provide a challenging problem for physicians. For many patients with these injuries, reverse shoulder arthroplasty has been the treatment of choice, although the preservation of the patient's own humeral head might have significant advantages. We present a case of a 66-year-old male with a neglected anterior glenohumeral dislocation that he sustained 6 weeks prior when he was hit by a car as a pedestrian.

Shoulder dislocations remain the most frequent of joint dislocations, with anterior displacement of the humeral head being the direction of dislocation seen most often (97%). Recently, the Dutch clinical guideline on shoulder dislocations has been revised on the basis of predetermined bottlenecks in clinical practice. In this paper, the guideline is translated to clinical practice by means of two fictional cases, in which the novel recommendations are incorporated.

Background: About 20% of proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) are unstable and/or markedly displaced and therefore require surgery. Locking plate fixation after anatomical reduction has become the current treatment of choice for these fractures in the active population. However, studies have shown complication rates up to 36%, such as loss of reduction and avascular necrosis.

Background: The aim of this study was to identify items that healthcare providers and/or patients consider important to include in a questionnaire for clinical trials and cohort studies in shoulder instability research. This could serve as a basis to develop a core outcome set for shoulder instability research.

Methods: Healthcare providers and patients were included in a panel for a modified Delphi consensus study.

A 35-year old healthy male trauma surgery chief resident, suffered a high-speed motor vehicle collision. The patient sustained the following injuries: a Gustilo-Anderson grade 2 open comminuted intra-articular fracture of the left distal femur (AO 33C3.3), a Hawkins 1A neck fracture of the right talus (AO 81.

Background: The rate of inpatient mastectomies remains high despite multiple studies reporting favourably on outpatient mastectomies. Outpatient mastectomies do not compromise quality of patient care and are more efficient than inpatient care. The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of outpatient mastectomy.

Purpose: The second-generation multi-electrode catheter, PVAC Gold, was designed to improve the safe delivery of phased radiofrequency energy using a "single shot" approach for pulmonary vein isolation (PVI), while retaining efficacy. This large registry presents long-term performance in a daily practice setting.

Methods: A total of 1011 patients undergoing first time ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF) using PVAC Gold were included, 639 patients with PVI for paroxysmal AF (PAF PVI) and 372 patients with persistent or long-standing persistent AF, divided into 175 patients receiving PVI only (PersAF PVI) and 197 patients receiving PVI with additional substrate ablation (PersAF PVI +).

Background: Fifth metatarsal fractures are one of the most common foot fractures, and 11% to 25% of such fractures are Dancer's fractures (distal spiral fractures). Conservative therapy while wearing a cast and operative treatment have been used as preferred modes of treatment in the limited literature available. However, we often see healing problems, such as delayed union and nonunion, when Dancer's fractures are treated nonoperatively, resulting in a need for secondary intervention.

Background: Fracture reverse shoulder arthroplasty (fRSA) in geriatric, complex dislocated proximal humerus fractures is becoming the standard treatment next to conservative treatment. fRSA is a multifaceted, reasonably challenging procedure of which functional outcomes and complication rates are likely to depend on the experience of the surgeon. The goal of this study was to determine whether there is a learning curve for fRSA.

Introduction: Operative management of posterior tibial plateau fractures (PTPF) remains challenging. The treatment goal is to restore the alignment and articular congruence, and providing sufficient stability which allows early mobilization. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility and safety of the newly developed WAVE posterior proximal tibia plate.

Aims: This study was performed to develop and externally validate prediction models for appropriate implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) shock and mortality to identify subgroups with insufficient benefit from ICD implantation.

Methods And Results: We recruited patients scheduled for primary prevention ICD implantation and reduced left ventricular function. Bootstrapping-based Cox proportional hazards and Fine and Gray competing risk models with likely candidate predictors were developed for all-cause mortality and appropriate ICD shock, respectively.

Background And Hypothesis: The majority of distal clavicle fractures are displaced fractures and constitute a treatment challenge because they have a 30% chance of delayed union or nonunion. Although several options for surgical reconstruction have been described, in patients with a comminuted and/or small distal fragment, these reconstructive options have proved to be prone to failure. Moreover, secondary surgery for removal is necessary in most cases.

Acromion fractures are increasingly seen as a postoperative complication following reversed shoulder arthroplasty. However, traumatic fractures of the acromion, usually caused by direct trauma, are rare. Therefore, the current literature lacks standardized clinical guidelines regarding the surgical treatment of these kinds of fractures.

Purpose: The second-generation multi-electrode catheter, pulmonary vein ablation catheter (PVAC) GOLD, was designed to improve the delivery of phased radiofrequency energy and reduce procedure times using a 'single-shot' approach for pulmonary vein isolation (PVI), while retaining efficacy and safety. This large registry presents acute success rates and safety outcomes in a daily practice setting.

Methods: A total of 1017 patients undergoing first-time ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF) using PVAC GOLD were included, 644 patients with paroxysmal AF and 373 patients with non-paroxysmal AF, divided into 175 patients receiving PVI only and 198 patients receiving PVI with additional substrate modification.

The tolerance of continuous-variable quantum key distribution to co-propagating DWDM channels is investigated. The quantum channel is operated in the S-band or L-band and multiplexed with a commercial C-band DWDM system. The results show that, compared to previously proposed configurations, the number of co-propagating channels can be doubled.

Objective: To investigate the effect of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in pregnant women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Methods: In SLE pregnancies of a single Dutch center (2000-2015), lupus activity and flares before and during pregnancy and postpartum were assessed using the SLE Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI)/SLEPDAI (SLEDAI adjusted for pregnancy). The association between HCQ use and pregnancy outcomes (early spontaneous abortion, fetal death, and preterm and term live birth) was analyzed using generalized estimating equations (GEE) accounting for the occurrence of multiple pregnancies per patient.

Objective: To investigate disease activity around and during pregnancy and pregnancy outcome in women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) considering antiphospholipid antibody status. Moreover, differences between first and consecutive pregnancies were examined.

Methods: Pregnancies > 16 weeks gestation of SLE patients receiving joint care from rheumatologists and gynecologists in two tertiary centers in the Netherlands between 2000 and 2015 were included.
