Introduction: This study explores the lived experiences of older adults with dementia in Dutch nursing homes, focusing on daily activities and emotional responses. With a growing number of older adults with dementia, gaining a deeper understanding of their lived experience is imperative.

Methods: Using a mixed-method narrative approach involving observations, informal interviews, and physiological monitoring through wearable sensors, the study engaged eight participants in psychogeriatric wards across two Dutch nursing homes.

Hearing health literacy among professional and amateur musicians.

Musicians create sound that is enjoyable to themselves and their audience, but this same sound also threatens their hearing health due to high sound pressure levels generated by their own and their fellow musicians' instruments. Here we seek to identify musicians' hearing health awareness in relation to their coping strategies. 370 professional and 401 amateur musicians in total responded to a questionnaire on hearing health, which included quantitative elements and open-ended questions.

Activity-directed synthesis (ADS) is a structure-blind, function driven approach that can drive the discovery of bioactive small molecules. In ADS, arrays of reactions are designed and executed, and the crude product mixtures are then directly screened to identify reactions that yield bioactive products. The design of subsequent reaction arrays is then informed by the hit reactions that are discovered.

Introduction: Pioneers have shown that it is possible to reconstruct a full breast using just autologous fat harvested by liposuction or autologous fat transfer (AFT). This study describes the first multicentre randomised study protocol to thoroughly investigate the effectiveness of AFT to reconstruct full breasts following mastectomy procedures (primarily and delayed).

The aim of this diary study was to examine daily smartphone use after and during work and their association with psychological detachment (in the home domain) and work engagement (in the work domain), respectively.

Daily spillover from family to work: A test of the work-home resources model.

The present study examines a mediated moderation model of the day-level effects of family hassles and family-work spillover (affect and cognition) on the relationship between job resources and employees' flourishing at work. Based on the work-home resources model, the authors hypothesized that demands from one domain (family) induce repetitive thoughts or negative feelings about those problems, so that individuals are not able to function optimally and to make full use of contextual resources in the other domain (work). Multilevel analyses of 108 Chinese working parents' 366 daily surveys revealed that the relationship between morning job resources and afternoon flourishing was significantly positive when previous day family hassles were low; the relationship became nonsignificant when previous day family hassles were high.

A diary study on work-related smartphone use, psychological detachment and exhaustion: examining the role of the perceived segmentation norm.

In this diary study, we examined the associations between daily work-related smartphone use and daily psychological detachment and daily work-related exhaustion within a group of smartphone owners. In addition, we studied the role of the perceived segmentation norm at the workplace as a moderator of the link between work-related smartphone use and detachment. A total of 70 employees using smartphones on initiative of their employer completed a diary questionnaire on 4 successive workdays (N = 268 data points).

The impact of job crafting on job demands, job resources, and well-being.

This longitudinal study examined whether employees can impact their own well-being by crafting their job demands and resources. Based on the job demands-resources model, we hypothesized that employee job crafting would have an impact on work engagement, job satisfaction, and burnout through changes in job demands and job resources. Data was collected in a chemical plant at three time points with one month in between the measurement waves (N = 288).

We propose a new view on yield stress materials. Dense suspensions and many other materials have a yield stress-they flow only if a large enough shear stress is exerted on them. There has been an ongoing debate in the literature on whether true yield stress fluids exist, and even whether the concept is useful.

Melting and crystallization of colloidal hard-sphere suspensions under shear.

Shear-induced melting and crystallization were investigated by confocal microscopy in concentrated colloidal suspensions of hard-sphere-like particles. Both silica and polymethylmethacrylate suspensions were sheared with a constant rate in either a countertranslating parallel plate shear cell or a counterrotating cone-plate shear cell. Suppression of thermally excited capillary waves by shear flow.

We investigate the thermal fluctuations of the colloidal gas-liquid interface subjected to a shear flow parallel to the interface. Strikingly, we find that the shear strongly suppresses capillary waves, making the interface smoother. This phenomenon can be described by introducing an effective interfacial tension that increases with the shear rate.

Nematic-isotropic spinodal decomposition kinetics of rodlike viruses.

We investigate spinodal decomposition kinetics of an initially nematic dispersion of rodlike viruses. Quench experiments are performed from a flow-stabilized homogeneous nematic state at a high shear rate into the two-phase isotropic-nematic coexistence region at a zero shear rate. We present experimental evidence that spinodal decomposition is driven by orientational diffusion, in accordance with a very recent theory.

The effect of ultrasound-assisted liposuction and conventional liposuction on the perforator vessels in the lower abdominal wall.

Scientific reports of clinical in vivo research into the effects and side-effects of ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (UAL) are scarce. Advocates of UAL claim that the damage to vascular and nervous structures is limited and even less than with conventional and/or tumescent liposuction (CL).
