Hibernomas are rare, benign neoplasms characterized by the presence of brown adipose tissue. Although these tumors may arise in any region of brown fat, they predominantly occur in the thigh, shoulder, back, and neck. Hibernomas are rarely found in mammary tissue, with a higher prevalence in females than males.

Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) is widely recognized as a tumor marker primarily associated with pancreatic cancer. However, its elevation in benign pancreaticobiliary conditions complicates its diagnostic utility. We present the case of a 39-year-old male with no significant medical history who presented with symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Gastroduodenal intussusception is a rare phenomenon in adults and is caused by gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) in the majority of the documented cases. It commonly presents with abdominal pain, vomiting and melena. GIST is the most common gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumor in gastric and non-gastric locations.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are non-epithelial stromal tumors that arise in the gastrointestinal tract. Pharmacological treatments for GIST are tyrosine kinase inhibitors. For metastatic disease, debulking may be helpful in reducing the tumor burden, thus increasing the effectiveness of tyrosine kinase inhibitors.

Introduction And Importance: Gallstone ileus is a rare disease that most commonly occurs in elderly females with a history of cholelithiasis. It has not been previously associated with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS); a neurodegenerative disease that primarily affects the motor neurons at the spinal and bulbar levels. Autonomic malfunction, in particular, gastrointestinal dysfunction has been documented in ALS patients which may predispose this population to the development of gallstones and gut dysmotility.

Introduction: Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) are notoriously one of the most common mesenchymal tumours of the alimentary canal. Most commonly originating from the gastric stroma, they are recognized by their mass effects on the abdominal cavity. Recurrence frequently occurs with GIST and these tumours may become refractory to tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs).

Article Synopsis
  • Medical malpractice is a significant issue for surgeons, particularly in high-risk procedures like pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD), which has notable morbidity and mortality rates.
  • A study analyzed 19 malpractice cases related to PD from 1991 to 2012, revealing that most cases favored the physician, but those that favored patients often involved high compensation amounts related to ongoing medical care.
  • Common litigation factors include claims that PD was unnecessary and issues of postoperative negligence, suggesting that improving communication and transparency between surgeons and patients could help reduce these legal challenges.

It is advocated that a favorable outcome for pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is related to a high volume at university centers. This article examines the specific elements that allow an equivalent outcome from PD in a nonuniversity tertiary care center (NUTCC). The study was performed to: (1) evaluate the outcome of PDs done at a NUTCC; (2) study the components of the process that are required to attain success in a NUTCC; and (3) provide a new look at the volume-outcome relationships in complex surgeries in a novel nonuniversity setting.

Background: Morbid obesity is a growing pandemic. The greater prevalence of chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart and liver disease has made management of obesity challenging. Many surgical techniques are in practice, each with some elements of restrictive or malabsorptive components.
