In addition to known association between cystatin C and glomerular filtration rate (GFR), elucidating the association between cystatin C and vascular biomarkers (intima-media thickness of common carotid arteries (CCIMT), carotid plaque and renal artery resistance index (RRI)) in patients with unresponsive hypertensive phenotype could be of significant clinical interest.
Methods: Participants (n = 200, median age 58 (52-64) years, 49% female) under treatment with antihypertensive drugs were stratified into two subgroups based on their blood pressure level as having responsive hypertension (RHT - compliant and responsive to treatment, n = 100), or nonresponsive (URHT - compliant but nonresponsive to treatment, n = 100).
Introduction: The existence of proteinuria may be overlooked by applying the test strips. The aim of this study has been to determine the discrepancy between the findings ofproteinuria detected by test strips when compared to the results of its testing with the sulfosali- cylic acid.
Material And Methods: The study sample consisted of 1106 subjects, who were divided into the proteinuria positive (test strips showed the presence of isolated proteinuria), and proteinuria negative group (microscopic examination revealed the presence of ≥10 fresh red blood cells4sL, and/or ≥1 dysmorphic erythrocyte/μL, and/or 10≥ leukocytes4uL, and or ≥1 cylinder, and/or ≥ 1 nonsquamous epithelial cells4μL, and/or ≥100 bacteria/μL).
Objective: Antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL Abs) represented an independent factor that was associated with the occurrence and/or progression of nephropathy in patients with antiphospholipid syndrome, but their role in diabetic nephropathy is not elucidated. Therefore, we evaluated the association of aPL Abs with the renal impairment parameters in patients with diabetic nephropathy.
Methods: Concentrations of analyzed antibodies were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

Material And Methods: This study included 110 subjects of both genders (71 female and 39 male), aged 29 to 73, treated at the Outpatient Department of Atherosclerosis Prevention, Centre for Laboratory Medicine, Clinical Centre Vojvodina. The 10-year coronary heart disease risk was estimated on first examination and after one-year treatment by means of Framingham, PROCAM and SCORE coronary risk scores and their modifications (Framingham Adult Treatment Panel III, Framingham Weibul, PROCAM NS and PROCAM Cox Hazards).
Introduction: Numerous epidemiological and clinical studies have shown that increased amounts of fat mass, especially intra-abdominal adipose tissue are associated with various metabolic abnormalities. Dysregulation of adipocytokines secreted by adipose tissue may play an important role in the development of the obesity-associated metabolic syndrome, resulting in insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and vascular disease. The cardiometabolic risk describes the clustering of risk factors including dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, hypertension, prothrombotic and proinflammatory state, associated with an increased risk for development of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

Biochemical Markers In Acute Coronary Syndromes: Acute coronary syndrome refers to a constellation of clinical symptoms caused by acute myocardial ischemia. Guidelines for utilization of biochemical markers in acute coronary syndromes are involved in recommendations for use of biomarkers in the initial evaluation of patients with nontraumatic chest symptoms, for diagnosis of myocardial infarction, as well as recommendations for early risk stratification of subsequent death and/or recurrent ischemic event.
Introduction: Vascular brain disease are the third leading cause of morbidity and mortality today. Among them ischemic brain disease caused mostly by cerebral atherosclerosis makes almost 80%. The main risk factors for this disease are arterial hypertension, dislipoproteinemia and diabetes but, recently hemostatic system disorders have also been underlined, especially fibrinolytic disorders.
