[The role of magnesium sulfate in providing hemodynamic stability in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery: a prospective randomized controlled study].

Introduction: during laparoscopic surgery, carbon dioxide (CO) insufflation to create pneumoperitoneum increases blood pressure, heart rate and systemic vascular resistance. The purpose of our study was to investigate the efficacy of magnesium sulfate in preventing adverse hemodynamic reactions associated with pneumoperitoneum in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Methods: we conducted a prospective, randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical study of patients scheduled for laparoscopic cholecystectomy and divided into two equal groups: the Mg group received slow intravenous magnesium sulfate 50 mg/kg injection prior to pneumoperitoneum insufflation while the S group received the same volume of 0.

Pericapsular nerve group block versus fascia iliaca block for perioperative analgesia in hip fracture surgery: a prospective randomized trial.

The aim of our study was to evaluate the efficacy of the pericapsular nerve group block (PENG) versus the supra-inguinal fascia iliaca compartment block (SI-FICB) to improve analgesia during positioning for spinal anesthesia (SA) for hip fracture surgery. We conducted a prospective randomized clinical trial involving patients who will undergo hip fracture surgery under SA and randomized into two groups: the PENG group: patients who received PENG block with 10 ml of 0.25% bupivacaine and 10 ml of 2% lidocaine and the SI-FICB group: patients who received SI-FICB block with the same solution.

The interest of intranasal clonidine in the prevention of perioperative children's anxiety: a prospective randomized trial.

Introduction: perioperative anxiety in children may lead to psychological and physiological side effects. Clonidine is in increasing use in the pediatric population as an anxiolytic, sedative, and analgesic because of its central alpha2-adrenergic agonist effect. Our study aimed to evaluate the effect of clonidine in the prevention of perioperative children´s anxiety.

McGrath® versus Macintosh laryngoscopes on hemodynamic response to intubation in elderly patients: a randomized clinical trial.

Introduction: laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation induce catecholaminergic release. Our study aimed to evaluate the hemodynamic impact of orotracheal intubation by McGrath® compared to the Macintosh laryngoscope in the elderly.

Methods: we conducted a prospective randomized clinical trial that included elderly patients proposed for a scheduled surgery under general anesthesia with orotracheal intubation and divided into 2 groups: patients who were intubated using the McGrath® (group V) and patients who were intubated using the Macintosh direct laryngoscope (group M).

[Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome in patients with preeclampsia: case report].

Reversible posterior encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is a rare clinico-radiological syndrome. Diagnosis is suspected in pregnant women suffering from eclampsia when brain CT scan shows radiological images suggestive of this disease. Addition of magnesium sulfate to bupivacaine improves analgesic efficacy after tonsillectomy: A randomized trial and a CONSORT analysis.

Objectives: The main objective of this study was to compare the wound infiltration (peritonsillar fossa) of magnesium sulphate combined with bupivacaine, bupivacaine alone and saline solution on post-tonsillectomy pain in children. Acute angle-closure glaucoma after total knee replacement surgery: case report and literature review.

An early and correct diagnosis improves the prognosis of post-operative Acute angle closure glaucoma (AACG). A 65 years-old monophtalmus man was operated for a total knee replacement surgery, under general anaesthesia without any adverse events. The day after, the patient described recurrent periorbital pain in his eye, with ocular hyperaemia, and reduced visual acuity.

Can leukocytospermia predict prostate cancer via its effects on mitochondrial DNA?

Leukocytospermia was previously reported to affect sperm quality by the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) leading to oxidative stress (OS). In turn, OS decreases sperm functional integrity, increases sperm DNA damage and ultimately alters fertility status. To elucidate the impact of leukocytospermia on sperm nuclear DNA integrity and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) structure, we conducted a study including 67 samples from infertile patients with low level of leucocytes (Group 1: n = 20) and with leukocytospermia (Group 2: n = 47).

Relationship between nuclear DNA fragmentation, mitochondrial DNA damage and standard sperm parameters in spermatozoa of infertile patients with leukocytospermia.

The association of leukocytospermia with male fertility is still under debate. Our objective was to evaluate the association of leukocytospermia with sperm parameters, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variations, and seminal concentration of several oxidative stress and inflammatory cytokines in Tunisian infertile men. [Implication of early extubation after cardiac surgery for postoperative rehabilitation].

Introduction: Postoperative rehabilitation after cardiac surgery is based on medical-surgical management in order to reduce the lenght of stay in hospital and the costs of this high risk surgery. Early tracheal extubation (within the first 6 hours) is the cornerstone of fast-track surgery. Our study aimed to evaluate fast-track practice and early tracheal extubation in scheduled cardiac surgery for adult patients in our Institution.

[The lithiasic acute cholecystitis: laparoscopic treatment (About 106 cases)].

Aim: To assess the feasibility and the advantages of the coelioscopy in the treatment of the acute cholecystitis.

Methods: From January 1996 to December 2001, 106 laparoscopic cholecystectomies for acute cholecystitis have been collected. The diagnosis of acute cholecystitis has been confirmed for all cases by the pathologic exam.

[Gallbladder diaphragm: an unusual cause of acute alithiasic cholecystitis complicated of biliary peritonitis].

The gallbladder diaphragm is a very rare abnormality of the embryogenesis. It is an exceptional cause of biliary peritonitis. We report a 54-year-old man who presented with hepatic colic for the past 2 years.

[Intestinal perforation in a Tunisian woman: peritonitis due to a fishbone].

Diagnosis of foreign body perforation of the gastrointestinal tract can be difficult. The purpose of this report is to describe a case of acute peritonitis after perforation of the ileum by a fish bone that was detected by computed tomography.

Methods: Our retrospective study concerns 42 cases of complicated Meckel's diverticulum, collected during one period of 18 active years from January 1988 to December 2005. The yearly impact is 2,33 cases/year.
