Catch-and-release angling exposes fish to challenges that may result in sub-lethal effects or mortality. Lake trout () undergo high rates of release because of size-based harvest regulations or voluntary angler behaviour. Here, we examine short-term impairment in lake trout angled during the summer ( = 74) and fall spawning period ( = 33) to inform best practices for angling.

Even though most recreationally angled fish are released, little is known about how C&R angling impacts fish at the cellular or tissue level. As the first to explore the impacts of C&R angling on mRNA abundances, our study aimed to identify how the stress of angling influenced metabolism, acid-base regulation and cellular stress in the gills of lake trout (.

Design: Double-blind randomized controlled trial (Canadian Task Force classification I).
To compare perioperative outcomes in patients undergoing robotic hysterectomy and extraction of specimen via mini-laparotomy (RHML) versus open hysterectomy (OH) when uterus weighs more than 250 g. To study the factors determining the length of hospital stay in 2 groups. A retrospective analysis of all hysterectomies performed for uterus weighing more than 250 g from the year 2012 to 2015 was conducted.

We examined contemporary transfusion practices in patients with nonmyeloid cancer and CIA.
Methods: Key inclusion criteria were age ≥ 18 years with nonmyeloid cancer, receiving first/second-line myelosuppressive chemotherapy, baseline hemoglobin (Hb) ≤ 10.

Study Objective: The objective of this study is to report our center's series of robotic-assisted laparoscopic abdominal cerclage (RALAC) placement during pregnancy.
Design: Descriptive study (Canadian Task Force classification III).
Setting: Single academic institution.
Hot Melt Extrusion, a production process that has been around for quite some time, has the ability to produce innovative compounds not previously achievable with conventional methods. However, many variables need to be considered prior to production. The use of small-scale extruders and 3D printers provides compounders a pathway for developing new dosage forms at a minimal cost while initial research is being completed.

Objectives: This study presents tobacco and other drug use prevalence data from a statewide health screening program of foster care (FC) children in West Virginia, and explores associations with demographic and placement variables.
Methods: Logistic regression analyses adjusted for age, sex, and body mass index were conducted to determine if placement type and geographic region were associated with tobacco and other drug use among FC adolescents screened in 2012-2013 by the Early Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT), or HealthCheck WV.
Results: One-third of the 12-17 year-olds used tobacco and 24% used other drugs.
A 38-year-old African American woman presenting with acute abdominal pain and nonobstructive renal failure was found to have an enlarged fibroid uterus. A differential for sepsis was considered. Lab evaluation revealed an elevated creatinine and myoglobin level at 3.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA vaginal fornices delineator was introduced in the mid-90s by a gynecologic surgeon named Charles Koh as a device that would facilitate total laparoscopic hysterectomy. It is also used in robot-assisted and traditional laparoscopic hysterectomies. The delineator delineates the vaginal fornices and provides improved visualization of vital structures during a hysterectomy.

Fusobacterium necrophorum is infrequently implicated as a pathogenic organism. When pathogenic, the typical clinical presentation is that of pharyngitis, cervical adenopathy, and unilateral thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein. Infections caused by Fusobacterium necrophorum within the fields of obstetrics and gynecology have been infrequently reported.

This randomized phase II trial evaluated vintafolide combined with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD) compared with PLD alone. The utility of an FR-targeted imaging agent, (99m)Tc-etarfolatide (EC20), in selecting patients likely to benefit from vintafolide was also examined.

Here we report the complete, annotated genome sequence of the prepandemic strain BB22OP and make some initial comparisons to the complete genome sequence for pandemic strain RIMD2210633.

During pregnancy, the surgical management of adnexal masses is traditionally approached via laparotomy or laparoscopy. RALS offers a minimally invasive approach secondary to improved instrument dexterity and precision, 14-fold magnification, and 3-D imaging.

When cancer is present, the most frequent histology is mucinous adenocarcinoma. Neoplasms of the appendix that secrete mucin such as adenocarcinoma may rupture, leading to intraperitoneal seeding of the peritoneum and producing the clinical picture of pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP).

Methods: A survey focusing on physician knowledge and opinions about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and the HPV vaccine was distributed to pediatric providers in Chattanooga, TN.
Results: Response rate of 171 distributed surveys was 59 percent.
A 32-year-old man presented with a complicated crown-root fracture of a maxillary lateral incisor. The fracture extended subgingivally, and apical to the alveolar bone crest, invading the biologic width. Flap surgery to expose the fractured root face was performed and the coronal tooth fragment reattached with a dual-cure resin adhesive.

Laparoscopic transabdominal cerclage placement has been described but has significant limitations with only two-dimensional depth perception and limited dexterity. Robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery (RALS) is rapidly gaining acceptance in gynecologic surgery.

Methods: Techniques employing technetium-99m (Tc-99m) sulfur colloid and isosulfan blue dye were utilized to identify sentinel nodes in the inguinal lymphatic beds. Technetium-99m sulfur colloid was injected intradermally at the tumor margins 90-180 min preoperatively followed by a similar injection of isosulfan blue dye 5-10 min before the groin dissection.
Inhibin A (alpha-betaA) and activin A (betaA-betaA) are biochemically similar proteins that generally have opposite biologic functions. For example, while inhibin (alpha subunit) is proposed to be a tumor suppressor in some types of ovarian cancer, activin appears to stimulate tumor development. Previous reports suggest that a loss of alpha inhibin subunit expression and elevated serum activin levels are associated with human epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC).
