Key Clinical Message: Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome (MRS) remains an enigmatic pathology due to an unknown etiology. Our report, of a 69-year-old man with MRS misdiagnosed for about 40 years, underlines the diagnostic difficulty of this condition. A holistic view of the patient, with a correct medical history investigation, are often decisive in the diagnosis of MRS.

The aim of this study was to investigate ocular surface changes associated with face mask (FMs) use of healthcare personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic. We prospectively evaluated 200 eyes of 100 individuals during working hours and 40 eyes of 20 individuals during their rest days as a control group. Dry eye symptoms were assessed with the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) and McMonnies questionnaire.

Objective: Acyl-CoA-binding protein (ACBP), also known as diazepam binding inhibitor (DBI), is a small phylogenetically conserved protein. Temporomandibular disorders are a diffuse spectrum of diseases which involve temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and associated structures. However, much more need to be defined in order to detect and manage these conditions.

Black hairy tongue in a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Black hairy tongue (BHT) is a condition characterized by the elongation of filiform papillae associated with a marked discoloration, from yellowish-brown to black, and a thick lingual coating. BHT is usually observed in the elderly and in patients with limited self-sufficiency, as a consequence of poor oral hygiene. In this perspective, the patients affected by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) represent a high-risk category for the occurrence of BHT.

Probing depth in periodontal pockets: In vitro evaluation of contributions to variability due to probe type and operator skill.

Aim: To assess the reliability and simplicity of a method chosen for selecting subjects to be treated in the orthodontic system and for the acceptance of the method by the community.

Materials And Methods: 490 orthodontic patients received full dental examination. For each patient a table was prepared for the detection of malocclusion in which the occlusal characteristics according to the Norwegian Orthodontic Treatment Index (NOTI), the molar class and the teeth present were recorded.

The aim of this work is to determine the antibacterial activity of three marketed mouthwashes on suspended and sessile states of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. The efficacy of two commonly used products in clinical practice, containing essential oils as active ingredients (menthol, thymol, methyl salicylate, and eucalyptol) in association with or without alcohol, has been evaluated in comparison with a chlorhexidine-based mouthwash. The microtiter plate assay, in order to obtain a spectrophotometric measurement of bacterial responses at growing dilutions of each antiseptic, was used for the study.

Microbial biofilm modulation by ultrasound: current concepts and controversies.

Biofilm elimination is often necessary during antimicrobial therapy or industrial medical manufacturing decontamination. In this context, ultrasound treatment has been frequently described in the literature for its antibiofilm effectiveness, but at the same time, various authors have described ultrasound as a formidable enhancer of bacterial viability. This discrepancy has found no solution in the current literature for around 9 years; some works have shown that every time bacteria are exposed to an ultrasonic field, both destruction and stimulation phenomena co-exist.

Experimental evaluation of two methodologies for the restoration of crown fracture in permanent anterior teeth.

Aim: The purpose of this study is to compare, by means of mechanical tests, the resistance of two types of dental restoration in the uncomplicated crown fracture of human permanent maxillary central incisor: rebonding of the fractured tooth fragment and application of ceramic veneers.

Materials And Methods: Thirty human maxillary central incisors were divided into three groups of ten teeth each. The teeth of the first group (Group A) were kept intact and used as controls, while the remaining teeth were sectioned, in order to simulate a crown fracture, and restored respectively with either the rebonding of the fragment (Group B) or with the use of ceramic veneers (Group C).
