A 15-year-old female peach-faced lovebird () was presented to the hospital for a possible left wing injury and an inability to fly after falling in its cage. On physical examination the left elbow was swollen and painful. Radiographic images revealed left wing soft tissue swelling surrounding the elbow and lysis of the distal humerus with extensive cortical thinning.

Case History: A kākāpō () chick hatched on an off-shore island of New Zealand with a small white mass protruding through the cranial skin of the head. The chick's growth followed a normal pattern for kākāpō but at 3 weeks of age the cranium mass was non-reducible and fixed in place and the chick was removed from the island for diagnostic imaging and hand-rearing.

Clinical Findings And Treatment: A computed tomography (CT) examination revealed a full-thickness circular defect in the central cranium with suspected herniation of brain and dura.

Marine mammals rely on oxygen stored in blood, muscle and lungs to support breath-hold diving and foraging at sea. Here, we used biomedical imaging to examine lung oxygen stores and other key respiratory parameters in living ringed seals (). Three-dimensional models created from computed tomography (CT) images were used to quantify total lung capacity (TLC), respiratory dead space, minimum air volume and total body volume to improve assessment of lung oxygen storage capacity, scaling relationships and buoyant force estimates.

A 20-year-old female mute swan () originally in a flock of free-living swans on a Long Island, New York, lake, was presented for facial swelling and decreased appetite. An adult male ring-billed gull () was also presented to the same wildlife rescue center for bilateral lameness of 1-week duration. Once referred for veterinary evaluation and care, both species were diagnosed with septic arthritis and osteomyelitis caused by and treated with orbifloxacin until complete recovery.

Assessment of the compressibility of marine mammal airways at depth is crucial to understanding vital physiological processes such as gas exchange during diving. Very few studies have directly assessed changes in cetacean and pinniped tracheobronchial shape, and none have quantified changes in volume with increasing pressure.
