This study assessed how reliably oral health professionals can determine the thickness of the gum tissue around front teeth, comparing visual assessments, probing with a dental tool, and direct measurements.
A group of 48 patients was involved, and after their teeth were extracted, their gum thickness was measured accurately using a caliper, with criteria set for determining whether the biotype was thick or thin.
Results showed that while visual assessment was less reliable, probing provided a good and trustworthy evaluation of gum thickness compared to the direct measurement method.
