Objective: Vitamin D has been demonstrated to play a protective role in carcinogenesis. Polymorphisms of the vitamin D receptor (VDR) genes and 24-α-hydroxylase (encoded by CYP24A1) may affect the outcome of some cancers. This study examines the effects of the VDR gene and CYP24A1 single nucleotide polymorphisms on the outcome of supraglottic larynx cancer.

Objective: In this study, it was aimed to assess pentraxin-3 (PTX-3) levels and its relationship with carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hsCRP) in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism.
Design: Prospective cross-sectional study.
Background: This study aimed to investigate thymoquinone (TQ), and melatonin's radioprotective effects on liver, parotid gland, brain, and testis of rats which were exposed to total body irradiation (IR).
Methods: Thirty adult Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups that are Group 1 (control group): total body IR only, Group 2: IR-Melatonin (10 mg/kg), Group 3: IR-TQ (10 mg/kg), and Group 4 (sham group): nothing. Total body IR dose was 6 Gy.

However, its prognostic value in heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is unknown.
Objective: This study aims to investigate the predictive value of the S-QRS score for mortality in HFpEF.
Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is a life-threatening condition in patients with Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). Computed tomography pulmonary angiography is the preferred test to confirm the diagnosis. However, computed tomography pulmonary angiography is expensive and is not available in every clinic.

Yet little is known about their co-existence.This study explored clinical and laboratory differences between PE patients who tested positive with real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR+) and those who tested negative (PCR-) for SARS-CoV-2.

Objective: Crude oil extracts, components of extracts, and ethanolic extracts of Inula graveolens possess various pharmacological activities on various cancer cells including antioxidative and antiproliferative effects. Aqueous extract of this species has not been investigated on the liquid malignancies and solid tumors with a high incidence of treatment refractoriness and poor survival outcomes such as glioblastoma and leukemia. Hence, the present study aimed to evaluate the cytotoxic efficiency of I.

In the present study, an experimental animal model was performed to examine the effects of radiotherapy on VH. The right eyes of twelve New Zealand rabbits were irradiated to 60 Gy in 3 fractions in accordance with the scheme used in the treatment of uveal melanoma in our clinic, and contralateral (left) eyes were considered as control.

We used six groups of rats: group 1, untreated control; group 2, CCl treated (hepatotoxic); group 3, treated with 150 mg/kg ; group 4, treated with 300 mg/kg ; group 5, treated with CCl + 150 mg/kg ; and group 6, treated with CCl + 300 mg/kg . Liver damage was produced by injection of 1 ml/kg CCI twice/week.

Materials and methods: Thirty patients who were treated with CRT and 20 healthy controls were prospectively evaluated. Circulating levels of cytokines were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay procedure.

Methods: This multicenter study was carried out between January 01 and April 15, 2015 in Turkey in 57 centers. Adults were enrolled and studied in three groups.
Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common arrhythmias observed in clinical practice. The frequency of AF is increased in patients with impaired interatrial conduction. We aimed to investigate whether tissue Doppler echocardiography could be used for the evaluation of atrial conduction characteristics instead of an electrophysiological study, and to examine the predictive accuracy of tissue Doppler echocardiography for the inducibility of sustained AF.

Certain factors relating to knowledge of the clinical pattern of this disease make correct diagnosis and treatment difficult. The aim was to identify the different forms of presentation of this disease entity through publishing the results from our experience of surgical management of such lesions.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of photodynamic therapy (PDT) on retrobulbar blood flow parameters.
Methods: Twenty-four patients with choroidal neovascular membrane of at least four MPS disc area in one eye due to age-related macular degeneration scheduled for PDT were recruited. Peak systolic and end diastolic velocity of ophthalmic, central retinal and posterior ciliary artery of both eyes were measured with colour Doppler imaging and resistivity index were computed before, at the first and fourth weeks following PDT.
