Nursing Activities Score: trajectory of the instrument from paper to cloud in a university hospital.

Objective: To report the process of organization and construction of an information technology structure named Nursing Activities Score (NAS) Cloud Technology®.

Method: This project was based on the life cycle theory and has enabled the development of technological production through software engineering.

Results: The NAS Cloud Technology® was developed for remote and collaborative access on a website hosted by Google Sites® and protected in a business environment by the certified security and data protection devices Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).

Low-level laser therapy for treatment of venous ulcers evaluated with the Nursing Outcome Classification: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

Background: Different methods are available for the treatment of venous ulcers. Most current approaches focus on a combination of topical and compressive therapy. Adjuvant low-level laser therapy may be helpful in lesions with a protracted healing course, but evidence for its use is still limited.

Classification of Patient Care Complexity: Cloud Technology.

Presentation of the computerized structure to implement, in a university hospital in the South of Brazil, the Patients Classification System of Perroca, which categorizes patients according to the care complexity. This solution also aims to corroborate a recent study at the hospital, which evidenced that the increasing workload presents a direct relation with the institutional quality indicators. [The NAS system: Nursing Activities Score in mobile technology].

The objective of this study was to present the computerized structure that enables the use of the Nursing Activities Score (NAS) in mobile technology. It is a project for the development of technology production based on software engineering, founded on the theory of systems development life cycle. The NAS system was built in two modules: the search module, which is accessed using a personal computer (PC), and Data Collection module, which is accessed through a mobile device (Smartphone).

[Undergraduated nursing students' opinion about group work in online project].

The purpose of this study was to know undergraduated nursing students' opinions about the pedagogical practice in vital signs grounded on the problem-based learning approach presented in the form of digital educational objects. Ten individuals participated in the research, which used the methodology of a qualitative-case study. Data were obtained by means of semistructured interviews analyzed through thematic analysis.

Digital learning objects in nursing consultation: technology assessment by undergraduate students.

This study followed the teaching-learning process about the nursing consultation, based on digital learning objects developed through the active Problem Based Learning method. The goals were to evaluate the digital learning objects about nursing consultation, develop cognitive skills on the subject using problem based learning and identify the students' opinions on the use of technology. This is an exploratory and descriptive study with a quantitative approach.

Challenges and opportunities in graduate nursing education by distributed learning in Canada and Brazil.

In this paper, the authors share their experience related to graduate nursing programs offered by distributed learning (DL) in Canada and Brazil. Although degrees offered by DL are often the subject of criticism, the authors' experience has been that learning outcomes have been very good. Nevertheless, a number of challenges and opportunities have been encountered including those associated with flexibility of the program, delivering practice courses at a distance, facilitating interaction, faculty workload and preparation and student support, Newer technologies that may assist in this effort are identified.

Telenursing in primary health care: report of experience in southern Brazil.

The Rio Grande do Sul Telematics and Telehealth kernel in Brazil, aims to enhance the quality of the Unified Health System (UHS) in support of primary health care (PHC) services, most of them engaged in the Family Health Program (FHP). Among the initiatives of the TeleHealth Rio Grande do Sul, there is consulting via e-mail and videoconference. They are requested and answered using specific forms available on TeleHealth's intranet.

[Complications that bring a chronic renal patient to emergency health services].

Chronic kidney disease usually presents a variety of severe and chronic complications forcing patients to look for emergency services. This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted to get to know the profile of the chronic renal patient with complications, who looks for emergency health services. The sample encompassed 139 patients, who were treated in the Hospital de Clínicas emergency service in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Development and use of digital educative objects in nursing teaching.

This paper describes a development project of digital learning objects in nursing, and the evaluation of their use by teachers and undergraduate nursing students. The strategies for their development were composed of the following stages: conceptual modeling, development of instructional materials, implementation in a virtual learning environment, and evaluation. This is an ongoing study and preliminary results demonstrate that teachers and students evaluated the design and the content of the nursing digital learning objects satisfactorily, but demonstrate difficulties in using them.

Computerized nursing process in critical care unit using the ICNP--Beta2.

The process of nursing is an assertive solving problem approach to the identification and care of patients' problems as well as an instrument of education in Nursing. At the CCU, due to the complexity of care, constant changes in the clinical situation of patients and the elevated amount of information, the informatics is seen as a way to the development of the nursing process and consequently improvement of the quality of care. Therefore, this methodological study and technological production was developed with 05 nurses of the CCU aiming describing the development of the nursing computerized process in the CCU from the ICNP Beta 2 and demonstrating the contributions to the improvement of nursing care.

[Nursing minimum data set: identifying of categories and items for the nursing practice in ambulatory occupational health].

This article describes the categorization of the elements identified from the nursing check-up in ambulatory occupational health. This is a retrospective descriptive study that was conducted in the Nursing Ambulatory Center at Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. The data sources were the nursing records used in outpatient unit and from the records of the institution's database, collected from August 1998 to August 2003.

Nursing documentation in occupational health.

Purpose: Traditionally, nursing documentation has been consistent with hospital standards and legal definitions of clinical nursing practice. Identify data and information nurses need to be recorded in order to maintain the continuity and quality of nursing care and the efficiency of nursing performance is a research question that is moving professionals around the world. This study objective is to describe the analysis of nursing documentation in the patient records.

[The use of virtual learning environment in teaching basic and advanced life support].

The present paper is the result of an experiment conducted as part of the Nursing: basic and advanced life support course, which was offered as a semi-online course using the virtual learning environment called Learning Space. The virtual learning environment optimizes classroom dynamics, since in the classroom setting, practical activities may be privileged; besides, learning is customized as students may access the environment whenever and wherever they wish.
