The ruptures of tailings mine dams in the cities of Mariana and Brumadinho contaminated local Brazilian Rivers with toxic metals. Herein, we describe a scaled-up biosorbent based on natural macauba endocarp (NTE) and macauba endocarp chemically treated (TE) to remove Al, Mn and Fe from aqueous solutions. For the TE material: the variation of pH and temperature of water did not cause significant sorption interferences; the kinetics studies suggest a pseudo-second-order model; the adsorption isotherms revealed that the Langmuir equation was the best fit for Al and Mn, while the Freundlich equation best described the Fe; and the maximum adsorption capacities were between 0.

Methods: A total of 1581 cases, reported from 2010 to 2012 at various health centres in the state, were analysed by viral isolation and/or RT-PCR for viral detection and typing. To identify whether different genotypes were circulating in the state during this period, sequencing of the complete E gene for DENV (1485 bp in length) was performed directly from patient serum samples.
Background: The use of blue light has been proposed as a direct means of affecting local bacterial infections, however the use of blue light without a photosensitizer to prevent the biofilm development has not yet been explored. The aim of this study was to determine how the twice-daily treatment with blue light affects the development and composition of a matrix-rich biofilm.
Methodology/principal Findings: Biofilms of Streptococcus mutans UA159 were formed on saliva-coated hydroxyapatite discs for 5 days.
Purpose: This study's purposes were to: evaluate the antibacterial effect of chemomechanical instrumentation and a calcium hydroxide-based dressing in primary teeth with pulp necrosis secondary to trauma; and detect the presence of Fusobacterium nucleatum and black-pigmented rods in the canals of these teeth.
Methods: Microbiological sample collections (MSCs) were obtained: after coronal access to the canals of primary incisors (in 18 teeth; MSC 1); after chemomechanical instrumentation (in 10 teeth; MSC 2); and 72 hours after removal of intracanal medication (in 18 teeth; MSC 3). These samples were sent for microbiological processing.
Aim: This study compared clinically and radiographically the use of zinc oxide and eugenol cement (ZOE) and a commercial calcium hydroxide and polyethylene glycol-based paste (Calen(®) ) thickened with zinc oxide as root canal-filling materials for primary teeth with pulp necrosis secondary to trauma within 18months of follow up.
Material And Methods: Eligible patients of both genders aged 2years and 6months to 5years and 10months who had been referred for dental treatment at a pediatric dental trauma service and presented at least one anterior primary tooth (central and/or lateral incisor) with pulp necrosis secondary to traumatic injury were selected.
