A stress-busting program for family caregivers.

Aging baby boomers, longer life spans, and rising levels of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) will result in a caregiver crisis in the near future. The ways in which caregivers deal with stresses related to caregiving will be critical to both their own well-being and their ability to care for others. The purpose of this article is to describe the Stress-Busting Program (SBP) for family caregivers and its effectiveness.

Connectedness in the nurse-patient relationship: a grounded theory study.

What is that "special," meaningful relationship that nurse and patient sometimes share? A grounded theory study was undertaken to answer this question. Findings highlighted that the nurse-patient relationship (NPR) exists for the nurse to meet health needs of the patient. Ordinarily, these are biopsychosocial needs.

Assessment of caregivers' willingness to participate in an intervention research study.

The purpose of the study was to identify factors that influenced family caregivers' decisions to participate in an intervention research study. In interviews conducted before and after the intervention, caregivers (n=21) described reasons for participation. A focused content analysis was used to examine responses.

Putting a puzzle together: making spirituality meaningful for nursing using an evolving theoretical framework.

Aims And Objectives: This paper addresses the need for a practical understanding of spirituality in nursing by means of a generic definition of spirituality, an emerging theoretical framework, and some general practice guidelines.

Background: Spirituality is being addressed more frequently in nursing literature, but there is still lacking a professional understanding of the phenomenon that is useful as a basis for practice and research.

Conclusion: The history of spirituality in nursing is recognized, and then its role in peoples' and patients' lives, health and healing is examined.

A qualitative study of charge nurse competencies.

Little information exists regarding competencies required to function as a charge nurse. This qualitative study identified charge nurse competencies. Data sources were interviews (N = 42) with charge nurses, head nurses, staff nurses, and supervisory personnel.
