Experimental studies in animals and in vitro have shown the usefulness of photodynamic therapy (PDT) as an adjunct to periodontal treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term clinical and microbiological effects of PDT associated with nonsurgical periodontal treatment. Three sites in each of 33 patients with chronic periodontitis were randomly allocated in a split-mouth design to a treatment group: (1) scaling and root planing (SRP group); (2) SRP and irrigation with toluidine blue O (TBO group); and (3) SRP, irrigation with TBO and low-level laser irradiation (PDT group).

The ability of Candida albicans to form biofilms on denture surfaces is a significant cofactor in the pathogenesis of denture stomatitis. In this study, we applied a differential staining approach and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to analyse the effect of sodium hypochlorite and chlorhexidine gluconate on the viability, removal and morphology of C. albicans forming biofilms on denture acrylic using an in vitro model.

Purpose: This study evaluated the effectiveness of different exposure times of microwave irradiation on the disinfection of a hard chairside reline resin.

Materials And Methods: Sterile specimens were individually inoculated with one of the tested microorganisms (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, and Bacillus subtilis) and incubated for 24 hours at 37 degrees C. For each microorganism, 10 specimens were not microwaved (control), and 50 specimens were microwaved.
