Histophilus somni disease conditions with simultaneous infections by ovine gammaherpesvirus 2 in cattle herds from Southern Brazil.

This report investigated the cause of cattle mortality in two farms in Southern Brazil. The tissues of one animal from each farm (animals #1 and #2) respectively were used in pathological and molecular investigations to determine the possible cause of death. The principal pathological findings observed in animal #1 were pulmonary, myocardial, and encephalitic hemorrhages with vasculitis, and lymphoplasmacytic interstitial pneumonia with proliferative vascular lesions (PVL).

Infectious Disease Agents Associated with Pulmonary Alterations in Aborted Bovine Fetuses.

This study investigated the occurrence of selected pathogens of bovine respiratory disease in fetal pulmonary tissue of cattle and associated these with patterns of disease. Fetal pulmonary (n = 37) tissues were evaluated by histopathology; immunohistochemical assays identified intralesional antigens of bovine alphaherpesvirus 1 (BoAHV1), bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), bovine parainfluenza virus 3 (BPIV-3), bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV), and . Molecular assays were performed to amplify reproductive disease pathogens and bovine gammaherpesvirus 6 (BoGHV6) from 12 lungs.

Physiology and gene expression profiles of Dekkera bruxellensis in response to carbon and nitrogen availability.

The assimilation of nitrate, a nitrogenous compound, was previously described as an important factor favoring Dekkera bruxellensis in the competition with Saccharomyces cerevisiae for the industrial sugarcane substrate. In this substrate, nitrogen sources are limited and diverse, and a recent report showed that amino acids enable D. bruxellensis to grow anaerobically.

[Typology of nursing care according to hospitalized clients: scientific-technical and expressive dimensions].

This qualitative-descriptive study was carried out in a university hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August, 2007 to December, 2008. Nursing care was described and characterized based on the perceptions of 26 hospitalized patients. Data collection was carried out through interviews and the "Almanac" creative and sensitivity technique, followed by thematic content analysis from which the following category emerged: "Nursing care dimensions from the subjects' perspectives scientific-technical and expressive".

[Surgical Center environment and its elements: implications for nursing care].

The purpose of this qualitative research was to characterize the elements that constitute the environment of the Surgical Center and to analyze its implications for dynamic of care and nursing care. Intraoral contact mucositis induced by cinnamon-flavored chewing gum--a case report.

Contact mucositis is an inflammatory mucosal reaction caused by many agents. A case of a 53-year-old man with contact-type allergy in oral mucosa due to cinnamon chewing gum is presented. This condition should be considered in the differential diagnosis of nonspecific oral lesions.
