Aims: In this study we report the use of two novel lytic polyvalent phages as a cocktail in in planta assays and its efficacy in the control of bacterial halo blight (BHB) caused by Pseudomonas coronafaciens pv. garcae (Pcg) in coffee plants.

Methods And Results: Phages were isolated from samples of coffee plant leaves collected at two different locations in Brazil.

Contamination of water with mercury constitutes a serious public health problem, especially in locations where the use of Hg occurs improperly/illegally and negligently, as is the case in the Amazon region (Brazil). The riverside populations in the Amazon are frequently invaded by illegal mining, exposing these populations to significant risks, of which contamination by heavy metals such as mercury (Hg) has the potential to cause serious illnesses. Furthermore, exposure to this metal causes neurological, cardiovascular, immune and digestive system disorders, in addition to damaging the lungs, kidneys, skin and eyes.

Plastics derived from fossil fuels are used ubiquitously owing to their exceptional physicochemical characteristics. However, the extensive and short-term use of plastics has caused environmental challenges. The biotechnological plastic conversion can help address the challenges related to plastic pollution, offering sustainable alternatives that can operate using bioeconomic concepts and promote socioeconomic benefits.

The goal of this research was to create an antibacterial biopolymeric coating integrating lytic bacteriophages against for use in ripened cheese. is the main pathogen that contaminates food products and the food industry. The food sector still uses costly and non-selective decontamination and disease control methods.

This research work aimed at developing an edible biopolymeric microcapsular wrapping (EBMW) integrating lytic bacteriophage particles for , with potential application in poultry feed for biocontrol of that pathogen. This pathogen is known as one of the main microorganisms responsible for contamination in the food industry and in foodstuff. The current techniques for decontamination and pathogen control in the food industry can be very expensive, not very selective, and even outdated, such as the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics that end up selecting resistant bacteria.

Some chemical elements released in nature due to anthropogenic actions are harmful to living beings, and finding efficient and low-cost ways to measure their presence is a challenge. The major goal of this work was to use the barks of urban trees as bioindicators of the presence of these elements. For this purpose, tree barks of sixteen individual trees were collected, including Ipê (Bignoniaceae Family); Sibipiruna (Fabaceae Family); Pine (Pinaceae Family), in the city of Sorocaba, SP, Brazil, in three different districts.

The transdermal permeation of curcumin aided by choline and geranic acid ionic liquid (CAGE-IL) was addressed as a potential treatment for skin diseases. An in-depth analysis of the effect of CAGE-IL concentration in the enhancement of transdermal permeation of curcumin was performed, and the results were modelled via nonlinear regression analysis. The results obtained showed that a low percentage of CAGE-IL (viz.

A recent and quite promising technique for bone tissue engineering is the 3D printing, peculiarly regarding the production of high-quality scaffolds. The 3D printed scaffold strictly provides suitable characteristics for living cells, in order to induce treatment, reconstruction and substitution of injured tissue. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the behavior of the 3D scaffold based on Poly(L-co-D,L lactic acid-co-Trimethylene Carbonate) (PLDLA-TMC), which was designed in Solidworks™ software, projected in 3D Slicer™, 3D printed in filament extrusion, cultured with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and tested and models.

Background: The antibacterial mechanism of doxycycline is known, but its effects on the nerve-muscle system are still not unclear.

Objective: The aim of the study was to combine molecular targets of the neuromuscular machinery using the in situ neuronal blocker effect of doxycycline, a semisynthetic second-generation tetracycline derivative, on mice neuromuscular preparations.

Methods: The effects of doxycycline were assessed on presynaptic, synaptic cleft, and postsynaptic neurotransmission, along with the muscle fiber, using the traditional myographic technique.

Schistosomiasis mansoni presents many clinical manifestations during migration of schistosomes in their hosts, including diarrhea, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, liver abscesses, skinlesions, brain tumors and myeloradiculopathy. No lesions have been reported in skeletal striated muscles due to schistosomiasis mansoni in the literature. This short communication reports the histopathological findings on skeletal musculature in a murine model of neuroeschistosomiasis mansoni.
