Purpose: Structural changes during depressive episodes in adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD) remains unclear due to participant heterogeneity, illness chronicity, and medication confounders. This study aimed to explore white matter (WM) microstructural changes in first-episode, treatment-naïve adolescents with MDD using an integrated diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) approach.

Method: We recruited 66 subjects, including 37 adolescents with MDD and 29 healthy controls.

Point cloud completion aims to infer a complete shape from its partial observation. Many approaches utilize a pure encoderdecoder paradigm in which complete shape can be directly predicted by shape priors learned from partial scans, however, these methods suffer from the loss of details inevitably due to the feature abstraction issues. In this paper, we propose a novel framework, termed SPAC-Net, that aims to rethink the completion task under the guidance of a new structural prior, we call it interface.

Cilia and flagella associated protein 410 (CFAP410) is a protein localized at the basal body of cilia/flagella and plays essential roles in ciliogenesis. Multiple single amino acid mutations in CFAP410 have been identified in patients. However, the molecular mechanism for how the mutations cause these disorders remains poorly understood due to a lack of high-resolution structures of the protein.

Introduction: The brain's spontaneous neural activity can be recorded during rest using resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI), and intricate brain functional networks and interaction patterns can be discovered through correlation analysis. As a crucial component of rs-fMRI analysis, effective connectivity analysis (EC) may provide a detailed description of the causal relationship and information flow between different brain areas. It has been very helpful in identifying anomalies in the brain activity of depressed teenagers.

Acquired resistance poses a significant obstacle to the effectiveness of platinum-based treatment for cancers. As the most abundant antioxidant, glutathione (GSH) enables cancer cell survival and chemoresistance, by scavenging excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) induced by platinum. Therapeutic strategy targeting GSH synthesis has been developed, however, failed to produce desirable effects in preventing cancer progression.

Article Synopsis
  • Photosynthesis is highly efficient in energy transfer, making it a subject of significant research interest.
  • The article discusses two main energy transfer theories—coherent and incoherent—and how they apply to the numerical simulation of the Fenna-Matthews-Olson (FMO) complex.
  • By comparing different results from simulation methods, the research aims to uncover deeper insights into energy transfer mechanisms that could contribute to improving photosynthesis for carbon neutrality.

Offshore low-permeability reservoirs are mainly composed of complex fault-block structures with poor physical properties, which makes establishing an effective displacement relationship particularly challenging. Hydraulic fracturing assisted oil displacement (HFAD) can effectively increase the oil production of a single well by creating fractures to replenish the producing energy. In this study, the Khristianovich-Geertsma-de Klerk (KGD) model is used to calculate the propagation of vertical fractures, and the flow tube method is used to calculate the two-phase oil-water flow in filtration and seepage.

Treponema denticola, a bacterium that forms a "red complex" with Porphyromonas gingivalis and Tannerella forsythia, is associated with periodontitis, pulpitis, and other oral infections. The major surface protein (Msp) is a surface glycoprotein with a relatively well-established overall domain structure (N-terminal, central and C-terminal regions) and a controversial tertiary structure. As one of the key virulence factors of T.

A distorted low-symmetry EuL tetrahedral cage was fabricated through the self-assembly of europium ions and -symmetric bowl-shaped ligands containing a phosphangulene core. X-ray crystallography confirmed its unique architecture, featuring significant structural distortion and solvent-accessible coordination sites. This cage showcases exceptional luminescence-based sensitivity for formaldehyde detection compared to other analogs, achieving an impressive detection limit of 19.

Background: This meta-analysis was performed to obtain a comprehensive overview of the differences between once-weekly basal insulin (including icodec and basal insulin Fc) and once-daily basal insulin (including glargine and degludec) in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library were systematically searched for eligible studies up to 2 January 2024.

Results: A total of 12 studies were included, comprising 5,895 patients, with 3,104 (52.

Background: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease with multiorgan and tissue involvement. Lupus nephritis (LN), an inflammatory condition of the kidneys associated with SLE, represents a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in SLE patients. Current immunosuppressive therapies for LN have limited efficacy and can lead to significant side effects.

Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, a unicellular green alga, is a prominent model for green biotechnology and for studying organelles' function and biogenesis, such as chloroplasts and cilia. However, the stable expression of foreign genes from the nuclear genome in C. reinhardtii faces several limitations, including low expression levels and significant differences between clones due to genome position effects, epigenetic silencing, and time-consuming procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • Puberty is a time when some kids can start feeling really sad, and this study looked at how changes in the brain during this time can relate to major depression in young people.
  • Researchers used special brain scans to compare kids with depression to healthy kids and found some important differences in their brain's white matter.
  • They also created a model that could help identify depression in kids based on brain scans and other information, showing that changes in brain structure can connect to how sad someone feels.

We reported a rare case of peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis caused by Weissella confusa. In this case, the symptoms of peritonitis were insidious and atypical, with only turbid peritoneal dialysis effluent and no fever or abdominal pain. The peritoneal dialysis effluent showed slightly elevated leukocytes (predominantly lymphocytes).

  • A study examined risk factors for cardiotoxicity in 268 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with osimertinib between June 2019 and December 2023.
  • Out of these patients, 58 experienced cardiotoxicity, with significant associations found with smoking history, hyperlipidemia, and prior chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
  • The results indicated a notably high incidence of cardiotoxicity linked to osimertinib treatment, highlighting specific risk factors that could help in patient management.

Background: Fulvic acid enhances plant growth and interacts synergistically with phosphate fertilizer to alleviate the agricultural production problem of low phosphorus fertilizer utilization efficiency. However, the underlying mechanism of its action remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the impact of fulvic acid application with varying concentrations (0, 40, 60, 80 and 120 mg/L) on rice performance in plants grown in a hydroponic system subjected to low phosphorus stress.

Background: The metabolic or proliferative abnormalities that are characteristic of tumor cells can lead to abnormal fibrinolysis or coagulation system activity, with certain tumors exhibiting hypercoagulability or existing in a fibrinolytic state. However, the utility of biomarkers of coagulation and fibrinolysis when seeking to differentiate between benign gallbladder disease and malignant gallbladder tumors remains uncertain.

Methods: This study included a total of 81 patients with benign gallbladder polyps and 94 patients with malignant gallbladder tumors.
