Neoadjuvant chemotherapy assessment is imperative for prognostication and clinical management of locally advanced gastric cancer. We propose an incremental supervised contrastive learning model (iSCLM), an interpretable artificial intelligence framework integrating pretreatment CT scans and H&E-stained biopsy images, for improved decision-making regarding neoadjuvant chemotherapy. We have constructed and tested iSCLM using retrospective data from 2,387 patients across 10 medical centers and evaluated its discriminative ability in a prospective cohort (132 patients; ChiCTR2300068917).

Aim: Although a growing number of studies have shown that elevated uric acid (UA) levels are associated with multiple cardiovascular risk factors and progression of coronary artery disease, the causal relationship between UA and the occurrence of myocardial infarction (MI) remains uncertain. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between UA and the risk of MI.

Methods: We screened 23,080 patients in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database for 2009-2018 and explored the association between UA and MI risk using multivariate logistic regression model.

Sulfation is a highly valuable pathological and physiological process, yet it is often underappreciated considering the rather difficult accessibility of organosulfates. O-sulfonation (O-SO), a conventional and still common way to make organosulfates, restricts its applicability to hydroxyl compounds and therein lies a major challenge of library construction. Here, we describe a benzylic C-H radical sulfation with persulfates via C-O bond formation.

Structures and mechanisms of the RNA m A writer.

Acta Biochim Biophys Sin (Shanghai)

September 2024

-methyladenosine (m A) is the most prevalent epigenetic modification found in eukaryotic mRNAs and plays a crucial role in regulating gene expression by influencing numerous aspects of mRNA metabolism. The m A writer for mRNAs and long non-coding RNAs consists of the catalytic subunit m A-METTL complex (MTC) (including METTL3/METTL14) and the regulatory subunit m A-METTL-associated complex (MACOM) (including HAKAI, WTAP, VIRMA, ZC3H13, and RBM15/15B). In this review, we focus on recent advances in our understanding of the structural and functional properties of m A writers and the possible mechanism by which they recognize RNA substrates and perform selective m A modifications.

A sequential dual-locked luminescent copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) probe was designed and synthesized for the specific imaging and selective killing of tumor cells. This nanoprobe was prepared by first forming a Fe-coupled tannic acid (TA)-stabilized CuNCs (CuNCs-Fe), which is in quenching state due to the electron transfer between CuNCs and Fe, and then coating a protectable layer of hyaluronic acid (HA) on the surface of CuNCs-Fe to form the final dual-locked nanoprobe (CuNCs-Fe@HA). When the nanoprobe of CuNCs-Fe@HA target enter the tumor cells through CD44-HA receptor, HAase will first digest the HA layer of the nanoprobes, and then, GSH over-expressed in tumor cells will reduce Fe to Fe, thus restoring the fluorescence emission of CuNCs and at the same time killing the tumor cells with the hydroxyl free radicals (∙OH) produced by the Fenton reaction between Fe and HO.

Article Synopsis
  • Postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) significantly impact mortality rates after lung cancer surgery, prompting a study to systematically assess their incidence and associated risk factors across various databases.
  • The analysis included 34 studies, revealing a pooled incidence of PPCs at 18.4%, with key risk factors identified such as TNM staging, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and smoking history.
  • The findings suggest that targeted interventions may help reduce the occurrence of PPCs, with the peak expiratory flow rate being a potential protective factor.
