Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated how renal tumor biopsy (RTB) impacted the success of trifecta criteria in patients who underwent open partial nephrectomy (OPN) for renal cancer from 2012 to 2023.
  • Out of 167 patients, trifecta achievement rates were similar between the RTB group (53.3%) and the non-RTB group (54.76%), indicating no significant difference in surgical outcomes.
  • However, the RTB group showed a higher incidence of lymphovascular invasion, suggesting that while RTB is safe, it may be associated with some negative pathology outcomes.

To evaluate by using 3D renal volumetric assessment and compare renal parenchymal preservation between patient who underwent open partial nephrectomy (OPN) and robot assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (RALPN). We retrospectively reviewed the records of the patients to evaluate the effect of OPN (23 patients) or RALPN (19 patients) partial nephrectomy on renal parenchymal preservation. The CT or MRI were examined using 3D-Slicer image processing software.

To complement our previous findings regarding effect of ureteral access sheath (UAS) use, we checked RIRSearch database for patients who operated without using UAS. The aim of the study was to understand these new data better by comparing outcomes of retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) that continued sheathless after a failed UAS insertion those planned and completed sheathless. Data of 195 patients who underwent sheathless RIRS for kidney and/or ureteral stones between 2011 and 2021 were retrieved from the database.

Diabetic Retinopathy (DRP) is a disease consisting of all the structural and functional changes that develop in the retinal layer of the eye due to diabetes. DRP is the most important cause of blindness between the ages of 20-74 in the world, and the most successful standard treatment option in the treatment of DRP is intravitreal injections. To synthesize acetazolamide loaded nanoparticles to be applied intravitreal treatment of DRP and to examine theefficacy of the nanoparticles.

Objective: Tumors belonging to the mixed epithelial stromal tumor family (MESTF) are rare; thus clinicopathological experience about them are limited. Each epithelial and stromal component shows different patterns in these tumors.

Material And Method: Clinicopathological features of 11 MESTF cases that were diagnosed between 2000 and 2021 at a single center were evaluated.

Background: In the literature, there is not sufficient data on factors affecting the development of complications in patients with penile fracture after early surgical intervention.

Objectives: To investigate the predictors of long-term complications in patients who underwent immediate surgical repair for penile fracture.

Materials/methods: This clinical study included a total of 31 cases of penile fracture in which surgical treatment was performed within the first 24 h and penile fracture was confirmed during the operation.

Background: Pneumonia due to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is spreading rapidly all over the world and air travel is the leading transmission route of the virus among countries. The aim of the study is to determine the frequency of SARS-CoV-2 Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies in aircrew, to determine occupational exposure, and to understand the spread of immunity in social groups.

Method: The study was designed as a cross-sectional retrospective study.

Graphene is a material with various application potentials Graphene is a unique material with superiorities and has been applied in various fields for different purposes. Although studies on the utility of graphene oxide in the biomedical field are available, no evaluation has yet been done regarding the utility of sulfur doped (S-doped) graphene. The study focuses on the effect of blending the poly (3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) (PHBHHx) membrane with sulfur heteroatom doped graphene and the evaluation of biological responses to S-doped graphene/PHBHHx.

Purpose/aim Of The Study: The ultimate goal of periodontal treatment is to regenerate the lost periodontal tissues. The interest in nanomaterials in dentistry is growing rapidly and has focused on improvements in various biomedical applications, such as periodontal regeneration and periodontal tissue engineering. To enhance periodontal tissue regeneration, hydroxyapatite (HA) was used in conjunction with other scaffold materials, such as Poly lactic-co-glycolic-acid (PLGA) and collagen (C).

Induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSC) are preferred as an alternative source for regenerative medicine, disease modeling, and drug screening due to their unique properties. As seen from the previous studies in the literature, most of the vector systems to transfer reprogramming factors are viral-based and have some well-known limitations. This study aims to develop a non-viral vector system for the transfection of reprogramming factors.

The aim of this study was to design naproxen sodium (NS)-containing, biomimetic, porous poly(lactide--glycolide) (PLGA) scaffolds for regeneration of damaged corneal epithelium. NS-incorporated PLGA scaffolds were prepared using the emulsion freeze-drying method and then coated with collagen or poly-l-lysine. Porosity measurements of the scaffolds were performed by the gas adsorption/desorption method and the scaffolds demonstrated highly porous, open-cellular pore structures with pore sizes from 150 to 200 μm.

The importance of home healthcare is growing rapidly since populations of developed and even developing countries are getting older and the number of hospitals, retirement homes, and medical staff do not increase at the same rate. We consider the Home Healthcare Nurse Scheduling Problem where patients arrive dynamically over time and acceptance and appointment time decisions have to be made as soon as patients arrive. The objective is to maximise the average number of daily visits for a single nurse.

Infections related to Candida albicans biofilms and subsequent antifungal resistance have become more common with the increased use of indwelling medical devices. Regimens for preventing fungal biofilm formation are needed, particularly in high-risk patients. In this study, we investigated the biofilm formation rate of multiple strains of Candida albicans (n=162 clinical isolates), their antifungal susceptibility patterns, and the efficacy of certain antifungals for preventing biofilm formation.
