River water quality management and monitoring are essential responsibilities for communities near rivers. Government decision-makers should monitor important quality factors like temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). Among water quality parameters, the BOD throughout 5 days is an important index that must be detected by devoting a significant amount of time and effort, which is a source of significant concern in both academic and commercial settings.

Myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) is defined as stenosis of less than 50% or no stenosis on coronary angiography in a patient diagnosed with myocardial infarction. Telomere length is expressed by studies that it acts as a biomarker, especially for biological aging and cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether there is a relationship between circulating leukocyte telomere length (LTL) and serum lipid values in MINOCA patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use on ventricular repolarization, focusing on specific markers like the QT interval and Tp-e interval.
  • Researchers examined 36 e-cigarette users and 40 healthy individuals, comparing their electrocardiogram (ECG) results to assess ventricular repolarization parameters.
  • The findings revealed that e-cigarette users had significantly higher Tp-e intervals, corrected Tp-e values, and Tp-e/QT ratios, suggesting that e-cigarette use may disrupt normal heart rhythm and increase the risk of ventricular arrhythmias.

Purpose: The telomere length is shown to act as a biomarker, especially for biological aging and cardiovascular diseases, and it is also suggested that with this correlation, increased exposure to the oxidative stress accelerates the vascular aging process. Therefore, this study aims to understand the correlation between the plasma oxidative stress index (OSI) status and leukocyte telomere length (LTL) and cardiologic parameters between the ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) groups.

Method: One hundred one newly diagnosed patients with STEMI (n = 55) and NSTEMI (n = 46) were included in the study, along with 100 healthy controls who matched the patients in terms of age and gender.

Introduction: The use of a long backboard and cervical collar are commonly recommended by international guidelines for spinal immobilization, but both devices may cause several side effects. In a recent study, it was reported that spinal immobilization at 20° eliminated the decrease in pulmonary function secondary to spinal immobilization performed at 0°. Spinal immobilization at 20° is a new recommendation, but other potential effects need to be explored before it can be implemented in clinical use.

Article Synopsis
  • * A total of 98 patients were studied, who were categorized into those with complete STR (≥70%) and those with incomplete STR (<70%). Key findings indicated higher levels of certain biomarkers in the incomplete STR group, which was linked to poorer heart function.
  • * The results suggest that measuring endocan and galectin-3 could help identify STEMI patients at greater risk of inadequate blood flow to the heart and worse health outcomes after treatment.

Emission of platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs) especially from vehicle exhaust catalysts and pharmaceutics cause an increase in concentrations of this metal in aquatic environments. In this study, small (4-9 nm) uncoated and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) coated Pt NPs were synthetized and their dispersion in different exposure media were evaluated. Pt NP uptake in two established fish cell lines were investigated and comparative in vitro cytotoxicity of Pt NPs and ions were assessed.

Article Synopsis
  • In patients with chronic stable coronary artery disease (CAD), the presence of well-developed collateral circulation (CCC) is linked to lower long-term mortality rates.
  • This study investigated the relationship between serum levels of calprotectin, angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1), and angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) and CCC in 147 patients with stable angina, dividing them into groups based on their CCC status.
  • Results indicated that patients with poor CCC had higher levels of calprotectin and Ang-1 but lower levels of Ang-2, suggesting that calprotectin could be an important biomarker for assessing and managing anti-ischemic treatment in these patients.

Introduction: In patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), minimizing the reperfusion time is the goal of therapy worldwide. However, the differential diagnosis is critical and when a patient is encountered with chest pain and ST elevation, STEMI should not be the only diagnosis considered. By detailed history and focused physical examination, it is possible to avoid a mistaken diagnosis.
