Estrogen receptor-α (ERα) activity in the brain prevents obesity in both males and females. However, the ERα-expressing neural populations that regulate body weight remain to be fully elucidated. We report a case of de novo malignant ganglioglioma. A 61-year-old male presented with a 12-day history of headaches and general malaise. Pre-operative magnetic resonance imaging revealed an irregular enhancing mass in the left temporal lobe with associated dural enhancement and subacute subdural hematoma.

Brain injuries are a serious burden of illness to Canada and the US. Advances in managing head trauma have allowed more patients to emerge from decreased levels of consciousness and helped them cope with neurocognitive, neurobehavioural, and neuropsychiatric deficits. In this article, we review the current (1986-2002) evidence surrounding the pharmacological management of arousal states and the aforementioned neurological sequelae of head injury in either acute or chronic conditions.

Objective: Kaposi's sarcoma (KS), a condition often associated with HIV infection, is more common in men than in women; pregnancy and sex hormones could be involved. Urinary human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) has been reported to inhibit the growth of KS cell lines, with great variability among preparations. Urinary hCG often contains free forms of the hCG subunits and a fragment of the free beta-subunit, the beta-core, which may have biological activity.

Hyperthermic Antiblastic Perfusion (HAP) is a widely used method for the treatment of recurrent limb melanoma. In terms of tumor response, locoregional control and survival HAP has led to better results than those achieved with any other treatment.
