Article Synopsis
- Preeclampsia (PE) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) have a complex relationship, and this study aims to understand how common CKD is in women with PE to improve diagnostic processes.
- The research was conducted on 99 patients with PE at a hospital, where it was found that 14% had CKD, mostly in its early stages, with most cases previously unrecognized.
- Key findings indicated that preterm delivery and having a normal-sized baby for gestational age are linked to higher rates of CKD in these patients, suggesting that despite having CKD, good placental function can still be maintained during pregnancy.
