Spanish national survey on the use of cryoanalgesia in the treatment of funnel chest in pediatric patients.

Introduction: Pain control following Nuss thoracoplasty remains a challenge. Cryoanalgesia of the intercostal nerves has been demonstrated to reduce postoperative pain in these patients. The objective of this study was to understand how and how widely cryoanalgesia is used in pediatric patients undergoing funnel chest surgery in Spain.

Bilateral extensor digitorum brevis manus.

Introduction: The extensor digitorum brevis manus (EDBM) is an accessory muscle of the dorsum of the hand that may appear as a painful mass. It is treated surgically, usually by excision of the muscle.

Case Report: 14-year-old male with bilateral painful masses on the dorsal aspect of his hands.

Initial experience with brachytherapy treatment adjuvant to surgical resection of keloid scars in the pediatric population.

Objectives: The treatment of keloid scars is based on multiple lines of therapy, with varying levels of efficacy(1), and there is currently no single treatment that guarantees cure and prevents recurrence. In the pediatric population, the treatments used are not standardized, and there is insufficient evidence to support efficacy and complications. The objective of this study was to analyze the patients who required brachytherapy as an adjuvant to surgical resection in recurrent keloid scars.

Periocular Cutaneous Soft-Tissue Giant Cell Tumor in a Pediatric Patient.

Giant cell tumor of soft tissue (GCTST) is a rare neoplasm genetically unrelated but histopathologically indistinguishable to its osseous counterpart. Histologically, GCTST is characterized as a multinodular proliferation of bland histiocytoid mononuclear cells intermixed with osteoclast-like giant cells. GCTST most commonly presents as a soft-tissue mass located in the extremities of middle-aged adults.

Diagnosis of nontuberculous mycobacterial lymphadenitis: the role of fine-needle aspiration.

Nontuberculous mycobacterial lymphadenitis often presents a diagnostic challenge. This study aimed to evaluate the role of fine-needle aspiration cytology in the diagnosis of nontuberculous mycobacterial lymphadenitis in children. We conducted a retrospective review of fine-needle aspiration cytology performed in patients < 17 year-old with subacute lymphadenitis from 2003 to 2016 in a tertiary hospital in Spain.

Oral rapamycin: an alternative in children with complicated vascular abnormalities.

Objective: Sirolimus mTOR inhibitor represents a major advance in the treatment of patients with complicated vascular abnormalities. The objective of this study was to present our series of pediatric patients with vascular abnormalities treated with oral sirolimus, and to conduct a review of the relevant literature.

Material And Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients with complicated vascular abnormalities treated with oral sirolimus in our healthcare facility from 2016 was carried out.

[Surgical management of non-tuberculous mycobacterial lymphadenitis in a third level center].

Aim Of Study: To describe our experience in the management of non-tuberculosis mycobacterial lymphadenitits (NTML).

Methods: Retrospective analysis of patients who underwent surgery for NTML in our centre during the period between 2010-2017. Demographic data, diagnostic tests, treatment and follow up information were recovered from medical records.

[Surgery in times of crisis: conservative treatment of pectus carinatum by static corset].

Introduction: Dynamic compression system is the elective treatment for chondrogladiolar pectus carinatum. Nevertheless, its high cost poses a problem for its prescription in places where it is not subsidized. This article analyzes the experience of the Paediatric Plastic Surgery Service at a third grade hospital in the treatment of this deformity with a static compression system.

[Results of laparoscopic treatment of complicated appendicitis].

Laparoscopic appendectomy in children is a generally accepted procedure for the treatment of non-complicated acute appendicitis. Nevertheless, the role of laparoscopy in complicated cases is controversial. We show our experience with 40 cases of complicated acute appendicitis treated by means laparoscopy between February 2000 and October 2002.

Gastric heterotopia in the nasopharynx causing airway obstruction in the newborn.

We describe a newborn boy with a gastric heterotopia located in the nasopharynx, which caused airway obstruction soon after delivery. Gastric heterotopia is an uncommon lesion generally found throughout the alimentary tract, but nasopharynx is an exceptional location. To our knowledge, this is the second reported case of gastric heterotopia located in the nasopharynx, and the first one presenting in a newborn with symptoms at birth and with an associated central nervous system mass.

[Analysis of anti-reflux surgery failure].

Recurrent gastroesophageal reflux following fundoplication is a challenging problem, because it is usually refractory to medical treatment and a second, technically difficult, antireflux operation is required. Different factors that may contribute to surgery failure have been identified in children. We present 8 cases who underwent redofundoplication after failed procedures, from a total number of 96 patients operated on due to gastroesophageal reflux.

[Surgery of lung metastasis].

Introduction: The 30-40% of the oncologic patients have pulmonary metastases. Lung can be the only organ affected. In selected patients, exeresis of the pulmonary nodules can mean their healing.

[Surgical treatment versus tracheostomy of the laryngeal stenosis in children].

Incidence of pediatric laryngeal stenosis has increased due to better Intensive Care Units. The medical records of the patients with laryngeal stenosis treated in the hospital between 1990 and 1995 were reviewed, analyzing the type of lesion, ethiologic factors, surgical technique employed and post-op result. The surgical technique was chosen conditioned by the age, weight of the patient, grade of the stenosis according to Cotton's classification and presence or absence of respiratory distress.
