Background: The latissimus dorsi flap (LDF) is a classic and efficient technique for breast reconstruction. However, its use has recently diminished in surgical practice due to dorsal disadvantages and to the increased use of microsurgical techniques for breast reconstruction, such as the deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flap.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of managing dorsal problems such as asymmetry, irregularities, and dysesthesia by lipomodeling the back region during the associated surgery for breast reconstruction.

Background: Complications of reduction mammoplasty can lead to aesthetic sequelae, which are known to be difficult and delicate to treat, and only a few articles deal with this subject.

Purpose: The objective of this article is to present and analyze our experience of lipomodeling for the secondary management of aesthetic sequelae occurring after a complication of reduction mammoplasty.

Material And Methods: An uniform and consecutive series of 22 female patients, operated with the lipomodeling technique from December 2003 to March 2019 by the last author, to correct aesthetic sequelae after secondary complications of reduction mammoplasty was studied analyzing the efficiency and the tolerance of this technique.

Dorsal seroma is a common complication of autologous latissimus dorsi flap (ALDF) in breast reconstruction, and has limited the use of this technique, despite its aesthetic success. It is important to find a right technique to limit the incidence of seroma formation after ALDF. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and tolerance of a dorsal quilting technique called "running quilting" using barbed resorbable suture in seroma prevention.

Major defects of the facial structures cause severe functional and aesthetic impairment. For composite defects with bone loss, the use of a titanium plate bridging the bony defect, associated or not to a soft tissue pedicled flap is to be considered in complex cases, or for patients with high comorbidities. The principal limit of this technique is the risk of plate exposure, especially for patients who had adjuvant radiation therapy.

The widespread use of silicone implants in reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery led to an increase in the incidence of breast implant associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, BIA-ALCL, mainly associated with the use of macro-textured breast implants. BIA-ALCL is a serious complication presenting clinically as a late onset periprosthetic seroma. Thus, its occurrence became an alarming sign feared by most plastic surgeons.

Taste buds in the oral cavity have a complex immune system regulating normal functions and inflammatory reactions. Cyclophosphamide (CYP), a chemotherapy drug, has wide-ranging disruptive effects on the taste system including loss of taste function, taste sensory cells, and capacity for taste cell renewal. In bladder epithelium, CYP also induces inflammation.

Background: In delayed breast reconstruction, the thoraco-mammary cutaneous tissue often shows residual damage from radiotherapy. The fragility of this tissue is associated with a risk of skin necroses of approximately 8% when dissection is performed by reopening of the mastectomy scar.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to adapt the technique of short-scar latissimus dorsi flap surgery with an abdominal advancement flap employing a lateral approach only avoiding re-incision of the mastectomy scar.

The occurrence of natural root grafts, the union of roots of the same or different trees, is common and shared across tree species. However, their significance for forest ecology remains little understood. While early research suggested negative effects of root grafting with the risk of pathogen transmission, recent evidence supports the hypothesis that it is an adaptive strategy that reduces stress by facilitating resource exchange.

Cancer is often treated with broad-spectrum cytotoxic drugs that not only eradicate cancerous cells but also have detrimental side effects. One of these side effects, disruption of the olfactory system, impedes a patient's ability to smell, perceive flavor, and ultimately may interfere with their nutritional intake and recovery from cancer. Recent studies reported that the chemotherapy drug, cyclophosphamide (CYP), can damage gustatory epithelia and disrupt cell proliferation in olfactory epithelia.

Chemotherapy patients often experience chemosensory changes during and after drug therapy. The chemotherapy drug, cyclophosphamide (CYP), has known cytotoxic effects on sensory and proliferating cells of the taste system. Like the taste system, cells in the olfactory epithelia undergo continuous renewal.

Chemotherapy often causes side effects that include disturbances in taste functions. Cyclophosphamide (CYP) is a chemotherapy drug that, after a single dose, elevates murine taste thresholds at times related to drug-induced losses of taste sensory cells and disruptions of proliferating cells that renew taste sensory cells. Pretreatment with amifostine can protect the taste system from many of these effects.

Dried bonito dashi is often used in Japanese cuisine with a number of documented positive health effects. Its major taste is thought to be umami, elicited by inosine 5'-monophosphate (IMP) and L-amino acids. Previously we found that lactic acid, a major component of dried bonito dashi, enhanced the contribution of many of these amino acids to the taste of dried bonito dashi, and reduced the contribution of other amino acids.
