Background: Information regarding hospital service use by people newly diagnosed with cancer can inform patterns of healthcare utilisation and resource demands. This study aims to identify characteristics of group-based trajectories of hospital service use three years after an individual was diagnosed with cancer; and determine factors predictive of trajectory group membership.
Method: A group-based trajectory analysis of hospital service use of people aged ≥30 years who had a new diagnosis of cancer during 2018 in New South Wales, Australia was conducted.
Radiotherapy is an essential part of treatment for many patients with thoracic cancers. However, proximity of the heart to tumour targets can lead to cardiac side effects, with studies demonstrating link between cardiac radiation dose and adverse outcomes. Although reducing cardiac dose can reduce associated risks, most cardiac constraint recommendations in clinical use are generally based on dose to the whole heart, as dose assessment at cardiac substructure levels on individual patients has been limited historically.

Purpose: Radiotherapy (RT) is an integral component in the treatment of breast cancer. The aims of this study were to estimate the cost per 5-year Local Control (LC) and Overall Survival (OS) benefits of the first course of RT, based on breast cancer stage, and the potential cost savings with adoption of the FAST-Forward protocol.
Methods And Materials: All RT activities for breast cancer RT July 2017-June 2020 and their associated costs were consolidated together.

Aims: To (i) determine the actual radiotherapy utilization (RTU) stratified by age, (ii) develop an age- and co-morbidity adjusted optimal RTU model and (iii) examine the tolerance and toxicity of treatment of older patients with head and neck cancer.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective cohort study based on New South Wales Cancer Registry records (2010-2014) linked to radiotherapy data (2010-2015) and admitted patient data (2008-2015) for patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer. We calculated the actual RTU, defined as the proportion of patients who received at least one course of radiotherapy within a year of diagnosis, by age group, including patients aged 80+ years.
Background: Individuals diagnosed with cancer via emergency admission are likely to have poor outcomes. This study aims to identify cancer diagnosed through an emergency hospital admission and examine predictors associated with mortality within 12-months.
Method: A population-based retrospective 1:1 propensity-matched case-comparison study of people who had an emergency versus a planned hospital admission with a principal diagnosis of cancer during 2013-2020 in New South Wales, Australia using linked hospital, cancer registry and mortality records.
Aim: Oncology care provision by multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) is widely acknowledged as best practice. Formal team meetings, led by chairpersons, coordinate decisions on diagnosis, staging, treatment planning, and review. This study addresses a gap in meeting Chairs' perspectives on factors affecting functionality across the meeting cycle, from pre-meeting patient list triage to post-meeting dissemination of recommendations.

Aims: Delineation variations and organ motion produce difficult-to-quantify uncertainties in planned radiation doses to targets and organs at risk. Similar to manual contouring, most automatic segmentation tools generate single delineations per structure; however, this does not indicate the range of clinically acceptable delineations. Methods: A federated infrastructure of data extraction, de-identification, standardisation, image analysis, and modelling was installed for seven clinics to obtain clinical and imaging features and survival information for patients treated in 2011-2019. A logistic regression model was trained for the 2011-2016 curative patient cohort and validated for the 2017-2019 cohort.
Background: Variation persists in the quality of end-of-life-care (EOLC) for people with cancer. The aim of this work was to validate a novel segmentation tool for automatic delineation of cardiac structures and subsequent dose evaluation, with potential application in clinical settings and large-scale radiation-related cardiotoxicity studies.
Materials And Methods: A recently developed hybrid method for automatic segmentation of 18 cardiac structures, combining deep learning, multi-atlas mapping and geometric segmentation of small challenging substructures, was independently validated on 30 lung cancer cases.
Objective: The incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) in people aged <50 years has been increasing dramatically in the past three decades and such patients are known to face difficulties in diagnosis. The objective of this study was to better understand the diagnostic experiences of patients with CRC and explore age-related differences in the proportion with positive experiences.
Method: A secondary analysis of the English National Cancer Patient Experience Survey (CPES) 2017 was conducted on the responses of patients with CRC, restricted to those likely to have been diagnosed in the preceding 12 months via pathways other than routine screening.
Radiotherapy for thoracic and breast tumours is associated with a range of cardiotoxicities. Emerging evidence suggests cardiac substructure doses may be more predictive of specific outcomes, however, quantitative data necessary to develop clinical planning constraints is lacking. Methods: The objective of this study is to characterise clinician-perceived barriers and facilitators to cancer CPG adherence in Australia. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data from 33 oncology-focused clinicians (surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and haematologists).
