Article Synopsis
  • Patients on veno-arterial ECMO are at a high risk for upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB), which can lead to significant complications and healthcare resource use.
  • In a study involving 150 V-A ECMO patients from 2013 to 2017, UGIB was found in 10.7% of cases, typically occurring about 10 days after the start of ECMO.
  • A history of peptic ulcers was identified as the only independent risk factor for UGIB, highlighting the need for further investigation into preventive measures and treatments in this patient population.

Objectives: General anesthesia for cesarean is associated with an increased risk of maternal morbidity compared with neuraxial anesthesia. Reducing the rate of general anesthesia for urgent cesarean in women with epidural analgesia may improve maternal outcomes. Our objective was to identify the rate and factors associated with the conversion to general anesthesia for urgent cesarean among women with labor epidural analgesia.

Background: Nearly half of patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) report dissatisfaction with their treatment. However, factors related to treatment satisfaction have not been explored.

Objectives: To measure associations between treatment satisfaction and clinical and treatment-related characteristics among patients with HS.

With the massive influx of patients during COVID-19 pandemic into intensive care unit, resources have quickly been stretched to the limit, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Gas blender attached to ECMO is used to allow precise adjustment of characteristics of fresh gas flow, that is, blood oxygen delivery and carbon dioxide removal. To cope with the gas blender shortage, we describe a back-up system set up in our French tertiary referral ECMO center using air and oxygen flowmeters.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic skin disorder of unknown etiology that manifests as recurrent, painful lesions. Cutaneous dysbiosis and unresolved inflammation are hallmarks of active HS, but their origin and interplay remain unclear. Our metabolomic profiling of HS skin revealed an abnormal induction of the kynurenine pathway of tryptophan catabolism in dermal fibroblasts, correlating with the release of kynurenine pathway-inducing cytokines by inflammatory cell infiltrates.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin associated with specific lesional dysbiotic features. We studied the microbiome of clinically unaffected typical HS sites (armpits, inguinal folds, and gluteal clefts) in 60 patients with HS and 17 healthy controls. A total of 192 samples obtained by swabbing were analyzed by bacterial cultures.

Background: Severe Hurley stage 1 hidradenitis suppurativa (HS1) is a difficult-to-treat form of the disease.

Objective: To assess the efficacy and tolerance of the oral combination of rifampin (10 mg/kg once daily)/moxifloxacin (400 mg once daily)/metronidazole (250-500 mg 3 times daily) (RMoM) treatment strategy in patients with severe HS1.

Methods: Prospective, open-label, noncomparative cohort study in 28 consecutive patients.

Recent studies have proposed that adding quinine to water while performing Cherenkov volumetric dosimetry improves the skewed percent depth dose measurement. The aim of this study was to quantify the ability of quinine to convert directional Cherenkov emission to isotropic fluorescence and evaluate its contribution to the total emitted light. Aqueous solutions of quinine were prepared with distilled water at various concentrations (0.

Colloidal quantum dots (cQDs) are starting to be used in radiation detection, either combined with an organic fluorophore or used as a sole luminescent material. In the latter case, only few studies report on cQD-based detectors for medical applications, especially for scintillation dosimetry in radiation therapy. Moreover, most of these studies focus on the effects of radiation on cQD photoluminescence but do not look into the properties of the scintillation signal itself.

Background: Mindray BS480©, a multi-parametric and random-access clinical chemistry instrument, is suitable for medium-sized hospital applications. Large laboratories in hospital environments require high throughput non-emergency settings that could slow routine production lines. In addition, the possibility to adapt to different methodologies is of great convenience for improving the transfer from manual to automated applications.

Scintillation dosimetry has evolved towards utilizing 3D liquid dosimeters to perform quality assurance verification of complex treatment configuration for photon, electron and proton beams. However, most of the fluorophores utilized in these dosimeters are alike and present limitations. This study aims to establish the profile of CdSe colloidal quantum dots (cQDs) that were given the role of the fluorophore in a binary liquid scintillation system.

Background: Hidradenitis suppurativa is a very debilitating disease, treated by antibiotics and excision. The reconstruction is usually done by secondary wound healing and/or split-thichness skin graft. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reconstruction of the axilla with local perforator flaps as a single stage surgical treatment.

Purpose To prospectively assess the clinical impact of expert review of lymphoma diagnosis in France. Materials and Methods From January 2010 to December 2013, 42,145 samples from patients with newly diagnosed or suspected lymphomas were reviewed, according to the 2008 WHO classification, in real time by experts through the Lymphopath Network. Changes in diagnosis between referral and expert review were classified as major or minor according to their potential impact on patient care.

Background: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a frequent and severe disease of the skin, characterized by recurrent or chronic skinfold suppurative lesions with a high impact on quality of life. Although considered inflammatory, antimicrobial treatments can improve or lead to clinical remission of HS, suggesting triggering microbial factors. Indeed, mixed anaerobic microbiota are associated with a majority of HS lesions.
